Nanticoke Gun Safes were first developed in 1879. They were originally made to protect firearms from thieves and robbers. In 1903, the Nanticoke Gun Safe Company was founded and began producing safes for homes and businesses. The company has been manufacturing safe products ever since.
Nanticoke is a borough in Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 3,692 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Pittsburgh metropolitan area. Nanticoke is bordered by Forbes to the north and east, Butler Township to the south and west, and Mellon Township to the northwest. The name "Nanticoke" originated from an Indian word meaning "headwaters of Monongahela." The first settler in Nanticoke was Nicholas Cohan in 1798. He built a log cabin on land that now forms the eastern edge of town. One hundred years later, John Sleeper founded another log cabin on what is now lot 5 in what is now Butler Township. In 1834, John Sleeper's son-in-law Daniel Backer moved his family from New York City to start a farm in what is now Nanticoke. That same year, Jonas Senter established a gristmill on the Conestoga Creek near wherepresent day North Penn Road crosses it. By 1840, there were eleven buildings on this property which included five residences: two stores (one called Bowery House), one mill (the present day North Penn Road Mill), and one schoolhouse (now known as First Presbyterian). In 1845–46 Darius Senter built a small frame home near his mill for his wife Rhoda and their seven children; it still stands today across from North Penn Road Mill on lot 10A within Nanticoke Borough limits. This illustrates how early settlers lived and worked within their own community – they did not move away when their farms became larger or more important than their individual homes/lodges/housesites! In 1848 Samuel Morse moved with his family from Connecticut to be closer to friends he had made while living atSpringboro Village during the Revolution; he purchased 2 acres (0.8 km²) east of lot 4 in what is now Nanticokesouthwest side for $500 cash plus ten shares of stock in The National Telegraph Company [later NBC]. Morse started building his experimental telegraph line between Boston and Philadelphia that summer; construction began September 11th but soon stopped due to weather conditions including heavy rains which caused flooding along many miles of track throughout PA & NJ etc....... After three months service was resumed over December 12th 1850 using old equipment located just outside town limits.......On January 8th 1851 President James Kinsley signed an act authorising General George Meade[of Gettysburg fame]to open up Hell Gate MountainImportant military road into PA...... On February 1st 1861 Anthony Ludlow[White House physician]patented “Ludlow’s process for making nitrocellulose films…..He named this substance celluloid……….It served as far as photography until 1888 when developed film came into common use Nanticoker Post Office opened October 12th 1905 As late as 1951 there were only 6 residences left within borough boundaries dating back to 1800s In 1916 local boys organised an impromptu air raid drill for World War I veteran’s benefits purposes ........... On July 15th 1924 post office closed after fire DAMAGE TO WOODEN DOORS AND EYES OF PUMPKIN MALL . reopened Oct 9TH 1925 with new doors . continued operation until discontinued Dec 31st 1926 because of lack of customers ......................... As late as 1951 there were only 6 residences left within borough boundaries dating back to 1800s

Nanticoke, Pennsylvania is a town in Butler County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 1,752 at the 2010 census. The name Nanticoke comes from an Algonquian word meaning "place where the water flows easily." The first Europeans to visit what is now Nanticoke were French traders and explorers in 1683-84. They named their trading post "Coconut Point" after one of their Canaries who had died there while flying trade goods overland between France and England. In 1714, when George Washington surveyed the area for his future army during the French and Indian War, he called it Byers's Ferry because by then there was no other landing point on the Monongahela River. In 1794 John Dupleix built a wharf on the riverbank about 5 miles east of present-day Nanticoke. He became one of the first landowners in Butler County and developed his farm into a thriving village that grew up around him. In 1815-16 Henry Dearborn bought some of Dupleix's land and began developing what would become Dearborn Heights. At first he only raised corn but soon realized that this was not enough to support his growing village so he built houses and stores along with several churches and schools. When industry began to grow in northeastern Pennsylvania during the 1830s, Dearborn Heights became an important transportation hub as well as a center for manufacturing goods exported to Ohio and Kentucky. By 1840 most of Dearborn Heights had been destroyed by fire but much of it has since been rebuilt includingDearborn Presbyterian Church which remains one of Nanticoke's most important landmarks today
