Nanticoke, Pennsylvania is home to the Nanticoke Rifle and Pistol Club, which has been meeting since 1875. The club was the first in the United States to adopt a rifle as its official weapon. The club also holds annual gun shows and tournaments.
Nanticoke was founded in 1795 by Colonel George Washington and his wife, Martha. The town became a center of trade and culture after the British left Pennsylvania in 1815. Nanticoke is located on the Susquehanna River, about 20 miles northeast of Philadelphia. The first settler in what is now Nanticoke was Nicholas Warner, who arrived in 1795. Warner built a cabin on the banks of the Susquehanna River and began trading with other settlements along the river. In 1801, he married Rebecca White, who had also come to Nanticoke from nearby Ambler. From this marriage came eight children: John Warner (1802-1899), William Warner (1803-1885), Nicholas Warner III (1805-1893), James White (1796-1800), Lucy White (1798-1865), Samuel White (1799-1881) and Salmon Pritchard(1800-1946). Nanticoke quickly become a hub of industry due to its location on the river and its connections to other settlements. The town's first factory was built in 1814 by Nicholas Warner and his brother John. It produced goods such as cottonseed oil, shoes, buttons and paper products. Over time, other factories were built within Nanticoke walls including one that produced marble for building churches and another that manufactured cannons for the US army during World War II. Today, Nanticoke remains a vibrant community with strong cultural roots that continue to contribute to its economy today. Its downtown contains several museums including The Museum of Fine Arts which features exhibits from around the world; The Walters Art Gallery which houses works from America's history; Andover Tea Company whose tea rooms are open for visitors every day from 9am until 5pm; Andover United Methodist Church which provides worship services throughout the year; as well as several restaurants including Trumpet’s Pizzawhich serves up pizza oven style pies; Good Will Brewing Co.; Ben & Jerry’s ice cream truck which visits local businesses during happy hours; as well as several small businesses providing unique products or services such as More Than Coffee coffeepots made out of recycled materials or repairsmanpowerconsultingcompanywhich helps people with special needs get back on their feet

The town of Nanticoke, Pennsylvania was founded in 1795 by the brothers Nicholas and John Nicolson. The Nicolson's were Scottish settlers who arrived in America to start a new life. They named their settlement after the ancient port city of Nantes, France. In 1803, the Nicolson family sold their land and moved to what is now Erie County, Pennsylvania. The Nicolson's were successful farmers and decided to start a school in 1807 to educate their children. The first building in Nanticoke was a log cabin that served as the schoolhouse until 1809 when a more permanent structure was erected. In 1828, the town became the seat of government for all of Erie County when it was organized into a county. The buildings that stand today in Nanticoke are unique examples of pioneer architecture and are significant symbols of its history.
The first settler on the site of Nanticoke was John Glenn who arrived in 1753. The town was founded by Nicholas Penn, a Quaker, in 1765. The town grew quickly and by 1800 it had a population of over 1000 people. Nanticoke became an important transportation center for the region and its industries included lacemaking, papermaking, shipbuilding, and lumbering. The town also became known for its produce such as apples and potatoes. In 1814 Nanticoke was burned by British forces during the War of 1812. Nanticoke declined after the war but resumed growth in the 1870s when railways began to arrive in the area. By 1900 Nanticoke had a population of over 3500 people and remained an important manufacturing center until the late 20th century. Today, there are only a few remaining buildings from earlier times including the Pennsylvania State Capitol which was built in 1912 and is now part of the University of Pittsburgh campus.
