In 1828, Captain John Smith authorized the purchase of several thousand rounds of ammunition from France to be used by American troops during their upcoming conquest of Mexico. This allowed American soldiers to fight without fear of being poisoned or infected by Spanish forces. Over time, ammunition became an important aspect of warfare and commerce in America. Nanticoke, Pennsylvania is a small town in the Lehigh Valley region of Pennsylvania. The population was 4,711 at the 2000 census. As of the 2010 census, it had fallen to 3,829. The first Europeans to visit Nanticoke were Dutch settlers in 1624 and 1627 who named it "New Netherland". The town became a borough in 1881 and an unincorporated community in 1951. It has since been designated as a city by statute. Two rivers flow through Nanticoke: Beaver Creek on the east side and West Branch Susquehanna River on the west side. Both are important for water supply and transportation due to their location close to major highways and railroads. One of the features that makes Nanticoke unique is its wide variety of architecture which reflects its history including Federal (early 19th century), Gothic (18th century), Italianate (19th century), Queen Anne (20th century), Colonial Revival (1930s-40s), Classical Revival (1950s-60s) and Shingle Style/Craftsman (1970s).

In 1861, American inventor John Browning developed a new type of breech-loading rifle, the Colt .45 Automatic Rifle. This weapon was widely used by both sides during the American Civil War.
Nanticoke, Pennsylvania is a small town located in Butler County, Pennsylvania. The town was founded in 1784 by John Nance and his family. The town was named for the Nassau family of New York City who donated land for the settlement. The first store in Nanticoke opened in 1812. In 1836, the community had a school and two stores. The population of Nanticoke numbered 347 when it was taken over by the United States Census Bureau in 1910. At that time, Nanticoke had a population of 2,922 residents. By 1950, the population had decreased to 1,846 residents. From 1990 to 2000, the population increased by 11%. The history of Nanticoke begins with its founding as an agricultural village on Long Island Sound close to what is now New York City. In 1784, John Nance came to America and purchased land near present-day Butler County on Long Island Sound for $2 per acre (about £0.50). He built a cabin and started farming his lands which he named “Nanticoke” after his father-in-law’s estate on Nassau beach where he vacationed with his extended family during summertime (Dixon 1907: xxi). After some years of development work by John’s son Ezekiel (who also became one of America’s first farmers), about 1800 acres were sold from their farmstead including modern day buildings such as barns and houses at 339 Main Street according to records from 1840 (Boyd 1901: viii; Dixon 1907: xxii). This early growth led directly to today’s downtown core – which still retains significant traces of pioneer architecture dating back more than 200 years! In 1836, Ezekiel organized what is now known as Northampton Township into five separate townships – all under jurisdiction of Butler County so that individuals could buy property closer thereto rather than having to move around every few years like they did with Long Island Sound parcels (Fletcher 1951: iv; Boyd 1901: viii). A post office called "Nanticoke" was established here in 1837 (Fletcher 1951: iv) but no trace remains today other than a plaque marking this location on Route 222 southbound just past mile marker 248! It should be noted that at this time there were only two residences withintown limits – both being log cabins! To date there are several contributing factors that have helped keep downtown Core crowded throughout much of each year since its creation almost 175 years ago including live music events/fairs/festivals attracting hordes OF people FROM out-of-town each fall & winter season along withseveral dozen or so businesses (& many more street side restaurants) situated RIGHT IN DOWNTOWN CORE w/NO EXTREME RESTRICTIONS OR PARKING MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITIES
Nanticoke was a small settlement in the southeastern corner of Pennsylvania, on the Susquehanna River. It was founded by Welsh settlers in 1753 and became an important trading town during the early years of the American Revolution. Nanticoke was also a key stop on the Underground Railroad.
