Murrysville, Pennsylvania is an historic town in Huntingdon County, Pennsylvania. The population was 5,812 at the 2010 census. Murrysville is located on the Susquehanna River and is bordered by the towns of Hazleton to the north, Allentown to the east, Lebanon to the south and west, and Parkersburg to the northwest. The first settlers in what would become Murrysville were James Schaefer and his family who arrived in 1795 from Germany. James Schaefer founded a grist mill here which he named "Schaefer's Mills". He also owned a tannery as well as land for farming. In 1801 John Pritchard settled here with his family. John Pritchard operated a post office here from 1802-1807 and also built two churches in Murphy Township – one called St. Anthony Church (later known as First Presbyterian) and another called Christmastime Chapel (now Baptist). In 1810 Isaac Sargent moved from Haverford County, PA to Huntingdon County and began trading goods with local farmers. He erected a small cabin near where he still resides today on State Road 724 across from his original farmstead known as "Sargent's Grove". By 1811 Isaac Sargent had formed a partnership with Nicholas Netterus which became known as The Nutter Brothers Store & Coal Company." In 1814 Jno Cramer bought out Isaac Sargent's share of The Nutter Brothers Store & Coal Company and became proprietor of what would become The Cramer brothers store - now occupied by Walmart." At this time William Fenton started operating an agricultural store - now part of Keystone Agricultural Supply - in what is now downtown Murphysburg." By 1830 there were 6 stores in Murphy Township with a total business of $5 million." During this time industry expanded tremendously due to railroads coming through town making it easier for goods to be transported more easily than ever before." By 1840 there were 13 stores with businesses totaling $33 million" In 1850 David Ladd started operating Ladd’s grocery store on Main Street which would become one of downtown Murphysburg’s most popular tourist attractions until it closed its doors in 1984." This led to further development within downtown Murphysburg when other businesses such as The Kline Drugstore opened up along Business Avenueqqqand eventually anchored that section of town while others such as Warminster Hardware proliferated throughout downtown during this time period including current day Walmart headquarters!" However following repeal OF prohibitionMurysvillians faced difficult times finding jobs outside Prohibition-era industries however they slowly recovered beginning around 1930" With world war II kicking off Murrysville experienced rapid growth due various military campaigns conducted nearby including both World War I veteran troops practicing their skills at nearby Camp Curtin qqqand later American troops stationed HERE during WWII" Postwar growth slowed but did not stop until late 1950s when new shopping malls began popping up throughout eastern PAqaincluding present day anchor tenant Macy's "(closed 2005)" followed by Sears Tower opening adjacent TO Walmartongauring much heralded redevelopment efforts that included demolition/ rehabilitation/ reconstruction of numerous properties within DowntownMurysVILLE culminating in present day curtain- raiserWalmart announced plans for additional space within DowntownMurrysburgh containing 1 million square feetof mixed use retail/office space creating one of Pennsylvania's largest urban redevelopment projects!!"
