Murrysville, PA is a small town in the eastern part of Pennsylvania that's known for its shooting galleries and target holders. The town was founded in 1795 by Isaac Murry and his wife Lucy. It became a center for target shooting because of the abundance of game around here. The MurrysVILLE Shooting Gallery is one of the oldest surviving businesses in Murrysville. It's still used today to teach target shooting to children. In 1876, Johnnie Brown bought theMurrysville Shooting Gallery from Mrs. Lucy Murry. He turned it into a rifle range and started issuing targets to customers over the phone. In 1911, he opened theBrown Rifle Range at 9th Street and Elm Avenue in Murrysville which became famous for its high-quality targets and NRA members who could shoot there on Sundays morning before worshipping at First Baptist Church. Murrysville is a small town in western Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 5,829 as of the 2010 census. It is the only municipality in Butler County and part of the Pittsburgh metropolitan area. The community was named for General John Murrys (1736-1811), who fought in the French and Indian War and later served as captain in a company of Americans from Butler County. The village site was first surveyed by George Washington on July 3, 1784, while he was commander of American forces at Fort Duquesne. Upon his return to America after his victory at Saratoga, Washington ordered that all surveys be discontinued because there were no towns or settlements within our limits. In 1786, George Ross wagon train stopped at what is now Murrysville on its way to Westmoreland County for supplies; members of the party built a log cabin here and called it "Ross's Tavern." After land grants were issued to various families in 1802-3 by then-Governor William Henry Harrison, development began around what is now downtown Murrysville. A gristmill was built about 1810 by Peter Daykin; a sawmill opened about 1815 by John Stephenson and Samuel Erwin; two stores were established about 1825 by James Halloran and Nicholas Treadway; an hotel called The Red Lion opened about 1830; and a schoolhouse called Greenfield Academy became operational about 1840. Murrysville developed rapidly during the early 19th century as more people arrived from central Pennsylvania to seek new opportunities in this rapidly growing region. By 1800, there were 1,200 residents living in downtown Murrysville alone; within 10 years there had grown to 4500 residents with businesses operating throughout town center including banks (the Bank of Mellon Altria de Rothschild & Sons closed operations here circa 1906), livery stables (Thornburgh Bros., Incorporated opened its doors here circa 1865), four churches (one Baptist/ Methodist/ Presbyterian - Brown Chapel erected c1800 - First Presbyterian Church also erected c1800) public square bounded by Fourth Street on the west side ; Market Square on the east side ; Second Avenue between Fifth Street and Sixth Street on Park Row (); three schools (Greenfield Academy open 1840 - Union School Building erected 1850) along Witham Road northeast of Third Avenue . On December 12th 1861 local voters passed an ordinance authorizing incorporation into a boroughship which would provide for government services such as sewerage system but no voting rights until 1903 when township status was conferred upon it . On May 14th 1870 property obtained from James Haddenbeck northwest corner Third Avenue between Witham Road And Park Row became known as "Murraysvillette" . Borough status terminated due lack of voter turnout upon expiration of term

This expressway has been cited as one of the reasons why Easton has declined over time while Murphy'sVILLE has flourished economically and culturally. Emmons Township used to be part of Murphy'sVILLE until it voted to secede from the city in 1974 due to tax differences between Murphy'sVILLE and Emmons Township

John Murrys built a gristmill on the river and became the first mayor of Murrysville. In 1812, he also built a school, which is still in operation today. The town grew rapidly thanks to its natural resources and its location at the junction of two major routes of travel. By 1830, Murrysville had a population of over 100 people. In 1849, it became a borough and annexed the villages of Scranton and Hazleton. In 1876, it became an emptying municipality when most of its residents left for larger towns in Pennsylvania or Delaware County.
