Murrysville is a small town in Buchanan County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 1,947 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Yorktown Heights-Murrysville, PA Metropolitan Statistical Area. The Murrysville Arsenal was built in 1846 and became active in arms production until it closed in 1861. The arsenal produced artillery shells, rifles and pistols for the Union army during the American Civil War. It also manufactured cannons for local militias and used to store munitions for use against Native Americans living in the area. In 1923 Murrysville's old armory building was donated to the community by veteran gunsmiths Harry Fenton and Marshall Dickey as a museum and schoolhouse complex known as "The Arsenal." Today The Arsenal offers classes on firearms history, repair and maintenance of firearms, as well as demonstrations of how guns work.

In the early 21st century, murrysville began to experience growth as a suburb of Pittsburghs South Side neighborhood; according to 2005 estimates, Murrysville has a population of over 3300 residents making it one of the most populous areas within 10 miles (16 km) of Pittsburghs downtown core. Growth has been driven by manufacturingheavy industries such as textiles and apparel; service sectors such as health care; and real estate development including homebuilding, restaurant/nightlife services, education services etc.; although retail development remains strong with several anchor stores located near major thoroughfares like I-75/77 and Penn Avenue

Murrysville is a small town in Luzerne County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 2,859 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Altoona-Johnstown-Asbury Park, PA Metropolitan Statistical Area. The Murrysville area was first settled by Welsh immigrants in 1795. In 1811, John Murphy founded the Murphy’s Creek coal mine and smelting company in what is now Murrysville. The mine produced coal until 1911 when it closed due to competition from more efficient mines in nearby Carbon COUNTY. In 1883, brothers Elias and George Henshaw bought land north of village for the purpose of erecting a cotton gin and sawmill on their farm known as “Henshaw” Hill. From this location they produced cotton until 1912 when they sold their land to Wm J. Macready Sr., who built an additional cotton gin and mill on his property which became known as “Murphy’s Mills” after him. Murphysville post office opened on December 12th, 1892 under the name of Asbury Heights; it changed its name to Murrysville on July 1st, 1903 pending approval by the Pennsylvania Railroad Company (P&O) for its new name - Altoona-Johnstown-Asbury Park (AJAP). In 1916, AJAP was merged with Pittsburgh Central Station to form Penn Central Railway Company (PCL), which became United States Steel Corporation (USS). USS constructed two new railroad terminals – one near present day Murrysville and one just east of town off US 15 – making it possible for steel ore from various mines to be shipped directly into Pittsburgh via these terminals without being transported through Philadelphia or other points west before being loaded onto P&O steamers bound for market in New York City or Baltimore or other eastern ports
Murrysville was founded in 1735 by Colonel John Murrys, who purchased land from the Lenape people. The town became a thriving community and saw some of the earliest American settlements. In 1802, the town was renamed for George Washington as part of his presidential inauguration celebrations. The village continued to grow until it reached its current size in the late 1800s. The industry that made Murrysville so successful during its early years died out after World War II due to competition from other cities in Pennsylvania. However, recent growth has seenmurrysville become a center for political corruption and economic decline.
