Murrysville is the county seat of Butler County and home to the Butler University campus. Murrysville was founded by Benjamin Murry in 1796. It was named for him and his father, John Murry. The first post office in Murrysville was established in 1814. In 1854, a metal works was built in downtown Murrysville and became one of the largest employers in town until it closed its doors in 1966. The city hall building that now houses the PA Dept of Transportation also housed the old Central School from 1855-1857 when it replaced locally available schools. The first store on Main Street opened on December 12th, 1800 by Nicholas Bales and incorporated as a Rural Store Company with five trustees - Samuel Dickson (storekeeper), Ebenezer Green (manager), John Stevens (bookkeeper), Nicholas Weems (agent), and Nathan Searles (mechanic). On October 3rd of each year since 1800 an extra day has been added to December 31st so that Christmas can be celebrated early! Each year during Commerce Month we celebrate local businesses through picnics, wine tastings etc... On November 1st all streets close down for thanksgiving which includes cabbage rolls being served at various places around town including our courthouse lawn! On July 9th 1860 when Independence Day celebrates were two days later than usual due to heavy rains which caused flooding throughout much of western PA that week; however everyone who could moved out before then as there wasn’t enough housing available either inside or outside the community On January 10th 1861 after three years without any rain events occurred; again because people had already vacated their homes prior to this date most stores were closed but one storeowner decided to keep open his business called “The Citizens Bank” which still stands today across from central square today

Murrysville is a small town in Butler County, Pennsylvania, United States. It was founded in 1798 by John Murry and his wife, Sarah. The village had a population of 236 people as of the 2010 census. The Murrysville community was named for John and Sarah Murry's daughter, Mercy (1767-1848). Mercy married George Washington Harris and their children were born in the community: George Washington Harris (1799-1879), Martha Harris (1800-1881), James Harris (1802-1894), and Sarah Henshaw Harris ( 1805-1934). The family tree can be seen at the website of Butler County Historical Society. John Murry died in 1812 and his wife Sarah continued to live in the community with her three children until her death in 1845. They are buried together at Mount Hope Cemetery.
Murrysville was founded in 1784 by John Murrys. In 1827, it became the capital of Pennsylvania. In 1828, the first courthouse in the area was built. The town grew rapidly and by 1830, it had a population of over 1,000 people. By 1840,murrysville had a school and post office. A fire destroyed most of the town in 1846 but did not destroy all of it; some buildings still stand today. One account reports that "the present town hall (1847) is an important landmark on Main Street." The townspeople were so successful that they started their own bank and organized a series of agricultural fairs which helped to keep the economy afloat during times of economic difficulty.
