Murrysville is named for Samuel Murry who built a gristmill and post office in 1814. The community was first settled by Germans in the late 17th century. In 1800, John Wistar erected a log cabin on what is now Main Street in the village of Germanna. The first store in Murrysville was established by Nicholas Angermeier in 1824. In 1829, Andrew Mellon founded the Allegheny Lumber Company here and began to build sawmills and other mills in the town. By 1901, all of these businesses had been closed down or were converted into residences or other commercial establishments. A railroad station was built here by the Pittsburgh-Allegheny Railroad (P&A) on July 7, 1854 (the same day that it opened). The P&A became part of the Penn Central Railroad after its merger with Western Union on February 12, 1980. It served as an important transportation hub for both local businesses and commuters until Amtrak took over service from downtown Pittsburgh in April 1997 when unionized employees threatened to walk out if their demands for better benefits were not met.. Amtrak discontinued passenger service to Murrysville on October 15th 2001 due to budget constraints within Amtrak.. murrysville's only freight stop was at Cresson upstate New York until December 31st 2006 when CN Rail discontinued all services across Erie County due to lack of passengers/trainloads combined! According to the 2000 census there were 1,584 people living in Murrysville Township which included 1% African American residents (based off household composition). As of2010 there are 1,711 people residing within Fayette County including 100% black residents! There has never been any problem reported where race has caused conflict or discrimination here; everyone seems very friendly & welcoming! Of course this could be because there hasn't actually been that much interaction between races so far :) According to Forbes Magazine’s 2016 list of “America’s Top 25 Small Towns” (#4), Murrysville ranked #1 based off population size only!!! This can only be possible if you include #2 Scotts Valley which also ranks highly according to Forbes magazine! And finally #3 Butler which ranked 3rd!!!!! These rankings really reflect how popular & thriving this place really is (& still remains!) :) murraysville started as a tiny frame mill/post office called "Swing Around" back around 1800 Samuel murry started building it he name came from his fathers farm swing roundabout way he got idea from flying saucer sightings back then

Manufacturing began here soon after andMurrysville became an important node in the Pittsburgh industrial region during the 19th century and into the early 20th century because it housed some of Pittsburgh’s most significant mills including Pittson & Son Papermaking Company (1880), Carnegie Steel (1892), Armour & Co., Incorporated (1912), Villard Glass Works (1920) and Nanticoke Shipbuilding Company (1921). These companies manufactured everything from munitions to appliances and automobiles before they went out of business during World War II; however, part of their legacy still remains today with murraytowne@aol dot com which offers tours of some of these mills as well as information about local industry throughout history
Murrysville was founded in 1795 by Nicholas Murrys and his wife Susannah. The town was named in honor of Lt. Gov. James Murrys, who donated the land for the settlement. The first store in Murrysville was built on a small lot near today's intersection of State Route 22 and Elm Street. The town developed rapidly, and by 1824 there were ten stores, two hotels, two schools, and a post office. In 1829 the first railroad arrived in the town, transporting goods upriver to Pittsburgh. By 1840 the population had grown to over 100 people. In 1846–47 agricultural settlers moved into Murrysville from Northern Pennsylvania following heavy rains that season. By 1850 agriculture accounted for most of the town's economic activity; other businesses included a bakery and one printing press. During the late 1800s murals were often created to decorate buildings in Murrysville; many are still extant today including those at both the courthouse (1851) and school (1872). One notable mural is that at Third Avenue & Market Street which depict life in rural Pennsylvania after emancipation during Reconstruction
