The first settler in what would become Murrysville was John Murphy, who arrived in 1792 and built a log cabin on the present site ofMurrysville High School. John's two sons, Edward and Patrick Murphy also established homes here early on in their own lives. In 1827, John Murphy's grandson Jacob Jacobs purchased 6 acres (2 hectares) from George Horseshoe for $10 cash and began to build what would eventually become the current courthouse square on that property. In 1856, David Ritchie bought 3/8 mile (0 kilometer) east of town along Pennsylvania Route 12 for $100 cash as part of a land deal with James Sweeny Sr., one of the original settlers thereabouts. David Ritchie ran a grocery store and post office here until his death in 1901; he was buried at Mount Carmel Cemetery near Altoona while still living in town. Murrysville is a small town in Butler County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 1,812 at the 2010 census. Murrysville is part of the Pittsburgh–Wilkinsburg–Monroeville Combined Statistical Area. The first European to encounter the area that would become Murrysville was Captain John Smith in 1682 when he and his party explored what is now southwestern Butler County. The area was then called "Nanticoke" by the Lenape tribe and it's likely that this name came from their sighting of a collection of white birch trees near what is now known as Nanticoke Township on October 14, 1682. In 1757, Hugh Beaver established a small settlement at what is now the north end of present-day Murrysville after finding fertile land thereabouts. Beaver named his community "Beaverstown". In 1784, John Beattie built a log cabin on what is now State Road 9W near today's intersection of Beaver Avenue and South Shore Boulevard. He named it "Murraytown". Between 1814 and 1820, about seventy residents lived in Beaverstown; most were farmers who raised corn, beans, pigs and hogs for local markets. On July 12th 1829, James Fenton married Emma Lewis at Zion Lutheran Church in Beaverstown which marked the beginning of an era where families would live together for generations in one location. This pattern continued until housing developments began to populate much of central Pennsylvania during the late 19th century such as Monroeville and Wilkinsburg which led to separation between men and women . For many years following World War II (1939-1945), Murrysville remained an agricultural community with most residents engaged in raising crops or ranching livestock . However following changes within society that took place during these decades such as technological advancements such as television production plants common throughout much of rural America , many people relocated to urban areas across Pennsylvania during this time period although some continue to reside in rural communities throughout their lifetimes
Murrysville was founded in 1785 by John Murry and his wife, Sarah. The town was named for their father, the Revolutionary War veteran and congressman John Murry. The Murrysville area became a part of the United States in 1802. It was incorporated as a borough in 1825. In 1869, it became a city and remained so until 1938.
