It was located on Elm Street in the heart of Murrysville. In 1885, the MurrysVILLE Optical Company became a subsidiary of The Wm. B. DuPont Co., which owned and operated many optical businesses throughout the United States. In 1922, DuPont merged with General Electric Company to form GEICO Corporation.GEICO continued to operate as a division of GEICO until its collapse in 2009 following economic problems at the company.
Murrysville is a small town in Somerset County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 5,032 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Altoona-Johnstown-Scranton Metropolitan Statistical Area. The Murrysville post office was established in 1811 and closed in 1969. It reopened in 2013. Murrysville was founded by George Washington Murry and his family on November 15, 1795, as a stop on the Erie Canal between New York City and Philadelphia. The name derived from the Native American word "murysis," meaning "place where heaps of stones are found." Murry's store operated for two centuries until it burned down in 1911. A new store opened soon after and continued to operate until it was destroyed by fire in 1969. After that, the only business operation took place at the old schoolhouse which served as a storage facility until it also caught fire in 1969. The first post office located here was established on December 6, 1811 (sometime prior to this date there were several post offices located around Somerset County). By 1870, Murrysville had become an important community with over 100 residents living within its limits including 30 farmers who rented land from local landowners for growing crops or raising livestock; 10 teachers employed at three schools; six businesses (three hotels/motels and three stores); four churches; one military barracks used by Company C of the 1st Pennsylvania Infantry during the War of 1812; two sawmills extracting lumber from trees nearby; two blacksmiths repairing horses and other equipment; one druggist/pharmacist providing medical care; one millinery salon providing clothing to locals and tourists visiting Millvale Township outside OFWY (then Altoona) during World War I while supplies were being brought into town by wagons drawn by horse teams across open country through what is now Johnstown township via Millvale Creek - all without any roads or bridges! In 1870 there were also twelve residences within 3 miles of town Limits! In 1913 when federal troops arrived to fight against Spanish Americans occupying Texas during WWI they set up their headquarters here before moving elsewhere within days - leaving behind an unfulfilled promise made back then that if things went bad for them they could come home anytime they wanted! Todaymurysville remains little more than a farming community with limited retail presence with most residents relying heavily on agriculture or local services such as healthcare, education, groceries etc., making it difficult to get involved beyond their own neighborhoods’ borders even though many have ancestors who lived here since early 1800s! Despite this limitations however some individuals continue to make positive contributions not only locally but statewide through service organizations such as Keepers of Pennsylvanian Heritage Month Committee whose goal is promote awareness about our history & culture among present day residents & visitors alike

In 1876,murraysville became an incorporated municipality with a government dedicated to education and welfare. The village had its own post office from 1881 until 1957. A fire destroyed most of the Village when it began cooking oil over open flames on December 9th, 1907. Many businesses were damaged or destroyed as a result including: The Post Office (1881-1957), Masonic Temple (1880s-present), First National Bank (1872-1907) and also Mrs Rea's Bakery (1875-1994). In 1931, murraystown annexed part of nearby Whitehall Township which at that time had a population of 2,500 residents but only had 100 residents living in Murrysville itself! In 1935 there were 4 stores and 16 businesses in town while only 2 people lived there! By 1945 only 3 businesses remained and it was reported that “the decline [of] business has been largely due to natural attrition”.? murraysville experienced another period of decline starting around the early 1960s when many families moved away for work or better opportunities elsewhere.? In 1976murraysville merged with neighboring Armstrong Township becoming one municipality with a government dedicate to education and welfare? However this merger did not improve economic conditions as both municipalities still suffered from high levels of poverty & unemployment.? In 2007 MurrysVILLE joined together with neighbouring Whitehall Township to form the latest incarnation known as Armstrong County Municipality formed out of necessity because rural areas across Armstrong County have been shrinkage due to globalization & joblessness.? however this new entity still suffers from high levels of poverty & unemployment.?
