In 1824, John Murrys sold the original land that now makes up Murrysville to the United States government for $5,000. The town served as a military post during the American Revolution and George Washington’s Creek War. After the war, many of these pioneer families moved away from Murrysville to start anew elsewhere in Pennsylvania but some stayed and developed their businesses here. By 1870, when rifle manufacturing began becoming widespread in America,murraysville had become an important center for gun manufacturer’s production. By 1900 it had more than 20 firearm manufacturers with a workforce of over 1,500 people. Murrysville is a town in Butler County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 3,851 at the 2010 census. From its founding in 1792 until 1899 it was part of the Yorktown Township. On February 14, 1859, Murrysville became a borough in Butler County and on December 12 of that year became an incorporated village. It was again annexed by Butler County on January 1, 1865. On November 5, 1887 it became a city and on May 15th 1898 it merged into the larger Pittsburgh suburb of Squirrel Hill.
