Murrysville is located in the northwestern corner of Philadelphia County, Pennsylvania. It was founded by John Murrys in 1775 as a tiny post office named after his father, Nicholas Murrys. The community grew rapidly during the Revolutionary War, and by 1800 it had a population of around 1,000 people. In 1814, Murrysville became the capital of Lancaster County, and its growth continued until the town's incorporation as a city in 1907. During World War II, ammunition production at Murrysville was one of the largest in America. The city was especially well-known for making munition for General George Patton's Third Reich army. The factory produced millions of rounds of ammunition over the course of the war, including supplies for Operation Market Garden and Normandy landings.

Murrysville is located on the southern edge of Altoona Township and east of Johnstown Township. Murrysville was founded in 1795 by Nicholas Murray and his family. The name "Murraysville" initially referred to a nearby stream that flowed through the town. In 1802, Murraysville became chartered as a borough within Johnstown Township. The township name changed to Altoona Township in 1903 after it merged with Johnstown Township. The Murraysville post office closed on February 15, 1984, due to the last day for mail delivery being March 15th that year. In 2000, murry's vineyards were mentioned in an article about local winegrowing operations in upstate New York. According to author Jim McMahon's book "A History of Winegrowing in New York State", both wineries are owned by entrepreneur and businesswoman Diane Johnson-Shaw (born Diane Stratton). Diane Johnson-Shaw has been involved with wine production since she was just out of college and started making wines for her own enjoyment back home in Lancaster County near Reading, Pennsylvania when she met her husband Larry Shaw who also ran a small winery thereabouts (and still does today).
