Munhall is a small town located in Lackawanna County, Pennsylvania. The population was 3,527 at the 2000 census. Munhall is part of the Scranton-Wilkes-Barre, PA Metropolitan Statistical Area. The town was founded in 1795 by John Munhall and his family. In 1868, the company town of Gwynedd was created from parts of Munhall and other towns in Lackawanna County. Munhall has a humid subtropical climate with hot summers and mild to cool winters. Average monthly temperatures range from about 71–87 degrees F (22–30 degrees C). Snowfall averages about 1 inch/week during winter months. The most common type of precipitation is rain, which typically falls as snowflakes or raindrops on average every 12 hours during summer months; however, thunderstorms are also possibleoccasionally lasting several hours or more. Monthly sunshine ranges from a little over 256 total hours per year to almost 280 total hours annually depending on time of year

Munhall is a village in Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 1,955 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Pittsburgh metropolitan area. Munhall was founded in 1795 by German farmers and Loyalists who fled the British Invasion of America. The first store in Munhall opened in 1798. In 1821, John D. Rockefeller donated land for a college in Munhall and named it after him. The college closed in 1865 but its name lives on as Munhall University which is located just north of town on scenic Route 224. The Village of Munhall was established by farmers from German descent who fled during the American Revolution to escape taxes levied against them by Great Britain. Many of these settlers were forced to flee because they did not have enough money to buy back their homes or provide for their families when they left England. They moved into rural areas such as this one and started small businesses that would serve the local people and economy until they could build a better life for themselves outside of America. In 1795, two years after his home country's independence from Great Britain, Adam Backus purchased 640 acres (248 hectares) near what is now known as downtownmunhall from John D Rockefeller for $5 per acre ($160/km²). This purchase set off a community development plan that would see Backus establish an agricultural society with market gardens, churches, schools and other public services serving everyone within mile radius while he developed his land into what we know today as "Backus Township". He also built a home here which still stands today - an interesting footnote given that many homes in central PA were built before township boundaries became defined! It wasn't until 1821 that John D Rockefeller donated land for what would become known as "Munnell College" - named after himself because he had contributed so much money towards its establishment (he later became president of the school board). Located just north-of-town on beautiful Route 224 next to some lovely rolling farmland – this institution has been educating students throughout Allegheny County ever since! In 1865, following Union victory over Confederate forces at Gettysburg – Munnell University closed due to financial difficulties caused by wartime shortages of goods brought over by soldiers returning home (the university reopened soon afterwards). However – it wouldn't beuntil 1978 when the school board voted unanimously to rename it "Munnell University" once again following incorporation intoPittsburgh proper!
