Monroeville, Pennsylvania was one of the early American settlements in what is now western Pennsylvania. A number of early settlers were white men, including Nathan Bedford Forrest and John Brown. In 1795, Benjamin Franklin organized a company to purchase land in Monroeville to build a new county courthouse. The cornerstone for the courthouse was laid on October 10th, 1795 by Captain David Rittenhouse. In 1802, Monroeville became part of Luzerne County and the following year saw the inauguration of Judge Robert Mifflin as its first mayor. In 1825, Judge James Buchanan set up shop in Monroeville and soon became known for his abilities as an appellate lawyer. In 1829, General Andrew Jackson moved into Monroeville and began his presidential campaign from this location. Tennessee politician Thomas Hart Benton also made a home here during this time period. In 1830-31, he established a fur trading post in Monroeville which continued until it was closed by Canadian authorities in 1834 because of Benton's activities within the United States Army while stationed at Caseyville Barracks outside Cincinnati

Monroeville was a small village in the United States until 1795. It is now a ghost town, located about 8 miles west of Pittsburgh. The population of Monroeville was just over 100 in 1800 and only increased to around 350 by 1830. It decreased again to around 25 by 1850 before decreasing further still to 3 in 1870. However, despite its decline, Monroeville played an important role in American history due to its location and importance as a transportation junction for goods moving from the North to the South during the early years of America. The first post office in Monroeville was established on July 1, 1828. By 1837, it had become one of the largest villages in Pennsylvania with over 2,000 residents. The area that is now Monroeville was originally part of what are now Lawrence County and Potter County - two areas that were combined into Allegheny County on March 1, 1795. However, because it lay northeast of Pittsburgh at a point where roads diverged (the intersection being called “Mountain Top”), so much traffic passed through this small village that it quickly became known as “Pittsburgh’s Gateway to the West” – something that it would remain for many years after becoming part of Allegheny County. In addition to its historical importance as a transportation junction, Monroeville also served as an important manufacturing center during its time as an agricultural society - particularly due to its production of sugar beets and other vegetables which were shipped downriver from Philadelphia and Baltimore through Monroeville into Pennsylvania markets. The village continued to thrive throughout the 19th century despite numerous economic setbacks – including several times when it lost its charter as part of Pennsylvania’s Compromise Of 1867 which resulted in statehood for Ohio – until finally becoming extinct within decades following World War II when most monochrome TVs were replaced with color TVs .
