Meadville has been a part of the United States since 1776. The community was founded in 1795 by settlers from Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. In 1827, Meadville became the capital of Westmoreland County and the first county seat of that county. The population of Meadville peaked in 1850 at over 10,000 residents. However, by 1860, the population had decreased to just under 6,000 people. The decline can be attributed to a variety of factors including advances in transportation and communication that made it easier for people to move away from town. In 1868, Meadville was renamed Philadelphia after the city's incorporation as a city and its growth prompted an increase in the number of residents. However, by 1890, only about 1,500 people lived in Meadville; this decrease can also be attributed to alcoholism and other problems that plagued Philadelphia at this time.
Meadville is a small town in Butler County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 2,569 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Pittsburgh metropolitan area. Meadville is located on the Allegheny River in the far southwestern corner of Butler County and it borders Lawrence Township to the east and Wexford Township to the west. Meadville was founded by George Washington Mead in 1795 as a post office called Meadville Station on the Monongahela River. The first settler in what is now Meadville was John Braddock who explored what is now southeastern Pennsylvania in 1759-60 during his expedition against Native Americans. He named a site along present day Beaver Valley after James Otis (1740-1811), one of his aides during this expedition. In 1802, when notables from nearby LawrenceTownship moved into what is now MeadVILLE for religious reasons, they began to rename their townships after American Revolutionary War generals and revolutionaries such as Nathanael Greene (1744-1826), Benedict Arnold (1755-1820) and Jonathan Trumbull (1763-1827). The first store built in what is now Meadville opened its doors on July 1, 1830. At that time there were only about 100 people living hereabouts. By 1860 there were over 3200 residents living within walking distance of downtown which included most of present day Meadville Square and parts of Third Street between Bellefonte Avenue and Market Boulevard West., portions of Fourth Street between Bellefonte Avenue and Market Boulevard East., South Liberty Avenue between Second Street & 4th Street., North Liberty Avenue between First Street & Third Street., part of FifthStreet between Bellefonte Avenue & Market Boulevard West., as well as parts of SixthStreet Between Bellefonte Avenue & Market Boulevard East.. In 1874 all but two blocks north of Main Streets had been developed into market gardens with fruit trees being disseminated throughout much or all sections including those near today's intersection of Elmira Road/Market BoulevardWest./Bellefonte Ave./4th street/South Liberty Ave./First street/Third street with just a few scattered tree stands left today remaining primarily due to poor soil quality plus changing topography; these rapidly disappearing natural resources led developers eventually to build large scale subdivisions beginning around 1925 complete with paved streets, asphalt roofs etc.; often incorporating driveways leading directly from individual homes onto large lots surrounded by yards flower gardens or manicured gardens lushly landscaped with mature trees providing shade on hot summer days; today many old fashioned home values still exist numerous examples can be found throughout much rural areas across northeast PA

The railroad arrived in Meadville in 1892, and soon after a small grocery store and post office were erected. The early residents of Meadville were farmers who traded goods with surrounding villages. By 1900, however, most of the town's residents had become involved in manufacturing or trade unions. They built a large number of homes on high ground overlooking the valley below. By 1930, Meadville had a population of over 10,000 people and it became an important center for farm production and commerce. In World War II, many Meadowsvliers served in the military as infantrymen or airmen. Some also worked at local factories during the war to help contribute to national defense efforts. Afterward, many of these veterans moved back into Meadville to live out their remaining years. Many families continue to reside here today and are proud members of this community’s history and culture
Meadville was founded in 1717 by Capt. George Mead and his wife Susanna. The first settler, John Bicknell, arrived in 1727. There were only a few families living in the area at that time; most of the people were farmers. The first school was built in Meadville in 1739. In 1824, a post office was established here, and on July 4, 1829, the townspeople celebrated their incorporation with a parade through the streets. In 1854, there was a water system put into operation here and growth began topick up around here as people started moving into the area to live closer to work and other amenities. The population grew rapidly during the late 19th century due to industrial development and increased trade with neighboring townships alongthe Susquehanna River. By 1912, Meadville had over 1,000 residents. During World War I (1914-18), local men volunteered for various military units and served throughout Europe; many of them remained behind after the war ended and continued working at local businesses until they returned home in 1919. During World War II (1939-1945), Meadville saw some heavy traffic congestion caused by manufacturing plants located nearby; however, it never reached its peak due to rising population levels within commuting distance instead. In 1971-72 when Pennsylvanian statehood became an option on the November 3rd ballot statewide (! ), Meadville voted against it but still enjoyed full municipal autonomy under Pennsylvania law until 1982 when that changed as well following organized township annexation into larger municipalities across Pennsylvania). Today's population is approximately 830 residents living primarily within walking or biking distance of downtown attractions such as museums etc., including several casinos which have since opened up around this part of PA
