Meadville is a small town in Fayette County, Pennsylvania, United States. Meadville has a population of around 450. It is the primary educational and economic center in the town. The community was founded in 1800 by Colonel John Heath and his wife Catherine. The first settler to arrive was Eli Whitney, who arrived in 1814. In 1826, Meadville became the seat of government for what is now Fayette County. George Silliman served as its first mayor from 1827 to 1830. The towns post office discontinued operations on November 15, 1865 due to low mail volume due to the American Civil War. Afterward, it was leased from Pennsylvania Railroad Company until 1912 when it reverted back to the local government hands once again. Today, Meadville remains a small-town community with a focus on education and industry. Its 2 main businesses are Meadville Paper Mill which manufactures paper products such as books and posters and also provides services such as lawn care and trucking; and Stroudsburg Steel Works which produces steel products such as poles and wire cages; both companies are located within walking distance of each other along State Route 309 (Meadville Road). Other businesses include an ice cream shop called Pecan Pie House that opened in 2020; two convenience stores - Ace Hardware Store (now closed) & Duquesne Gas Station - opened in 2018; One Stop Shop restaurant that serves food delivery starting at $10 per order plus tax; three churches - First Presbyterian Church (founded 1886), Second Baptist Church (1891), & Methodist EpiscopalChurch (1902); four schools: Our Lady of Lourdes School(opened 1911), Third Grade Center(opened 1933), Fourth Grade Center(opened 1959), Fifth Grade Center(opened 1984). A few residences have been built since 2000 including one apartment complex completed in 2018 called "Homespun" which overlooks Interstate 76 just south of MeadVILLE Rd./State Routes 309 & 310
