Meadville is a small town in Carbon County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 1,398 at the 2010 census. Meadville is located on the border of Carbon and Potter Counties. Meadville was first settled in 1798 by William Mead and his family. The first post office in Meadville was established on February 14, 1800, and remained in operation until January 5, 1907. Meadville has a rich history dating back to the early 18th century when it was part of what is now Carbon County. William Mead founded the village of Meadville on March 9, 1798 after fleeing British colonial rule in North America. In 1801, he erected a log cabin known as "The White House", which served as the nucleus of the current town hall building and other civic amenities that still stand today. A second important development occurred during this time period with the founding of nearby Potter County by George Washington Potter on December 12, 1802. This new county would eventually include much of what are now Carbon and Potter Counties along with parts of Delaware and Westmoreland counties. With these developments came increased trade and commerce between Meadville and its neighboring communities as well as increasing opportunities for cultural experiences within Reach Central PA (a region known for its agricultural production). In 1814-1815, residents from Doddridge Township applied to have their township split off from Carbon County so that they could form their own government separate from those living north of Lebanon Creek Dam Road (now US Route 611). Eventually this application was granted but it wasn't until August 3rd 1840 that all concerned citizens gathered together at The White House to approve charter amendment #2 creating the present day boroughs of Carbondale/Meadville/Doddridge Township which were incorporated into Carbon County on November 16th 1841 under Act No 34 (Charter Amendment No 2) introduced by Representative John Bendixen (R-Lebanon Valley), who became later an Ashtabula County Supervisor . It should be noted that while Carbondale/Meadville/Doddridge Township formed part of CarbonCounty according to Act No 34(Charter Amendment No 2), there continued to be jurisdictional conflicts over thorny issues such as who had responsibility for maintaining wells within their respective townships – an issue that would continue up until 1984 when Act No 171 created a single authority for both carbonand meadvilletown Boroughs
