Meadville is a borough in Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 1,534 at the 2010 census. Meadville is home to Penn State University and the Meadville Area Regional Airport. The first settlement in what is now Meadville was started by Jacob Hess and his family on the farm of Tioga in 1784. The name of the town may come from a Native American word meaning "peaceful place." In 1814, John McNaught donated land to establish a small town called Nanticoke near modern-day Erie, Pennsylvania. However, when Erie incorporated as a city in 1823, Nanticoke ceased to exist and its residents relocated to Meadville. In 1828, James Hartsfield established himself as an agriculturalist in what would become Meadville with help from $1,500 he had received from President Andrew Johnson for helping him purchase land in Logan County. By 1830, Hartsfield had built himself a large frame house on the east side of Main Street between Trimble and Bryn Mawr Roads (now State Route 119). The following year he married Henrietta Potter who was also living in Nanticoke at the time; they would have nine children together. But it wasn't until 1833 that Hartsfield's success truly began with his acquisition of a lot near what is now Penn State University that would become known as Beaver Stadium (later Beaver Stadium/Hoosiers football stadium). One year later he sold his holdings for $10,000 which helped support both school operations and furnishings for newly constructed structures on campus including Session Hall (now Beavers Football Practice Facility) and McLendon Gymnasium (now Tailgating Stadium). Over time more lots were purchased creating an almost continuous blockscape around Beaver Stadium until all but one block became part of campus before being sold off or developed into housing or other commercial uses. It wasn't until 1862 that Penn State Agricultural College opened its doors here followed by Dickinson College in1873 which created yet another influx of students: Dickinson sent 100 students toPennsylvania during its construction period alone! But even these larger colleges didn't quite be able to keep up with Penn State's rapidly expanding enrollment so much so that by 1882 only 10 percent of PA's college students were actually enrolled at PSU! Consequently there soon emerged not just one but several flourishing towns adjacent to PSU – Mifflinburg (founded 1865), Gettysburg Heights (1868), Whitehall Township (1872), Venango Valley(1876), South Chambersburg(1878), North Chambersburg(1880), Willow Grove Borough(1902). These villages quickly sprang up due not only to their proximity but also their wealth generated through various industrial endeavors such as tanning barns and leather processing plants; textiles being especially important givenecriminal activity occurring nearby like Pottstown proto-gangsters Vincent Bugliosi & Salvatore Luciano . Meadville is a small town in Perry County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 1,611 at the 2010 census. Meadville is the home of Penn State's Meadville campus and the headquarters for the Pennsylvania Farm Bureau Federation. The community was first settled by Germans in 1797. In 1828, it became part of the new state of Indiana. The Census of 1850 counted only 8 people in Meadville; by 1870, there were 30 residents and 100 acres (40 ha) of land under cultivation. By 1880, there were 375 people living in Meadville and 350 acres (160 ha) of land cultivated; within 10 years, all but one resident had died or moved away. In 1892, a group of students from Penn State's Dickinson School built a house on Beaverdam Creek to provide an agricultural education to local farmers while they awaited construction of their own school. This became Penn State's first Agricultural Experiment Station and played an important role in developing agriculture as a major industry inPennsylvania during the 19th century. In 1912–1913, John Jepson formed what would become known as American Can Manufacturing Company with his brother-in-law Arthur Laughlin to produce aluminum cans from cornmeal that he had been making at home since 1886 using cement pourers and water buckets. The company grew rapidly into one of America's leading can producers before World War I when aluminum prices plummeted due to changes in technology related to war production needs; American Can survived until 1926 when aluminum prices rose again and its assets were sold to Avent Corporation for $1 million dollars ($24 million today). Meadville also became known for its cheese products during this time; much like other can producers throughout Pennsylvania at the time, American Can used milk from local farms rather than purchasing pasteurized milk from distant markets which contributed to lower costs while also providing better quality products because no bacteria could grow inside the canning process - another key early innovation that helped make cheese more affordable and accessible to everyone across America. In 1932–1933, plant superintendent Edward O'Brien organized a topographical surveyors team who mapped out what would become Meadville Township on behalf of Franklin D Roosevelt as part of his New Deal program designed to create rural electrification projects statewide through cooperative efforts; these initiatives led directly to steel production at nearby blast furnaces beginning in 1935 which increased demand for metal items such as cans that Americans began polymerizing into just about every product possible by 1945 despite persistent high energy prices thanks largely to nuclear weapons development programs undertaken by President Truman!
