It continued until March 3, 1909 when it changed its name to "Meadowvale". In 1802-1803 Abraham Potter set up a tannery in what is now Thornburg Township while working as a cooper in nearby Easton. In 1814-1815 George Stephenson erected a sawmill along with other mills near present-day Midland Borough on Beaver Dam Creek adjacent topresent-day Thornburg Township; these were some ofthe earliest European settlers within what are now Erie and Montgomery Counties. Stonecutters from Somerset County began quarrying rock here about 1800 which led to development of this region’s quarries noted for their high quality stone products including masonry for bridges, buildingsand roads. By 1830 many farmers had moved into this area from central Pennsylvania due to good soils and low prices for corn because transportation costs were too expensive transporting foodstuffsadditionallylockedupincentralPennsylvaniaduringthe19thcentury.
