Mckeesport, Pennsylvania is a borough in Lackawanna County, Pennsylvania, United States. It was established in 1868 as the town of McKeesport. The population was 5,713 at the 2010 census. As of the 2010 census, the borough had an assessed valuation of $136 million. The Borough of McKeesport was formed on March 25, 1868 from parts of the towns of Whitehall and Downingtown. On July 1st 1870 it absorbed part of the Township of Northumberland to form a new township which in turn annexed part of the Borough of Whitehall on December 15th 1871. On May 25th 1897 McKeesport became a city when it merged with neighbouring Uniontown having outgrown its original boundaries. On January 1st 1902 McKeesports corporate limits were increased by annexing portions of neighboring Potter Township including most notably Springboro and Prospect Heights making up what is now known as Delaware Valley Neighborhoods #1 through #5 (the latter becoming known as Mckee's Landing after president John F. Kennedy spent his honeymoon there). Finally on February 14th 1916 when all municipalities within Lackawanna County were combined into one large county under then-Governor John F Kapp he made McKeesport an official city by merging it with Uniontown effective February 15th 1916 resulting in an increase in population to 8,000 residents making it second only to Philadelphia as a municipal center during that time period behind only Philly itself!

Mckeesport is a town in Lackawanna County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 2,854 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Scranton-Wilkes-Barre, PA Metropolitan Statistical Area. The name "Mckeesport" is from Scots Gaelicmeaning "The place where There's Grain." Mckeesport first settled in what is now the town of Mckeesport and then moved to the present site of downtown in 1868. The community was founded by farmers who arrived in what is now Lackawanna County from Dauphin and Lebanon counties during the 1850s. They built small homes around a mill which they operated until 1865 when it was destroyed by a fire. The next year, they erected a log schoolhouse which served them for many years until it burned down in 1889. In 1868, John Prentice donated land to the town for use as a landing on the Susquehanna River near modern day Scranton. This initial landing became known as Prentice's Landing because it did not have any buildings other than some logs used for shelter and storage. In 1870, John Prentice donated another piece of land to create an Agricultural Park which included today's downtown area and allowed settlers to purchase land surrounding their homes for farming or development purposes only. By 1880, there were over 100 people living in Mckee’sPORTstadt with about 50 businesses including two clothiers, two seed companies and four grist mills all operating together within one large agricultural enterprise that produced hay, flour, oats and corn (besides building materials). By 1890 there were over 300 residents with over 100 businesses providing support services such as grocery stores (one opened later that year), banks (six branches), post office (opened 1861), blacksmith shop(1872) and three churches including one Baptist church which also functioned as a social club house for women before becoming officially organized as a municipality on October 25th 1892 under commonwealth law.(See History Of Scranton/Wilkes-Barre PA.)
Mckeesport was founded by the McKees Rocks area in 1798. It became a borough in 1853 and renamed Mckeesport in 1907. The population of Mckeesport was 14,824 as of 2010.
