Mckeesport is a town located in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 7,453 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Pittsburgh metropolitan area. The first Europeans to visit what is now Mckeesport were fur traders from Quebec in 1764. They named the town after John McKee, an Englishman who had been earlier explorer and trader in North America. In 1814, when Pittsburgh was founded as a city, McKeesport became part of that city; however, it retained its original name until 1886 when it was changed to reflect its status as a borough within Pittsburgh. In 1881–82, local residents built a dam on the Monongahela River which formed the Town Lake. The lake became an important source of water for many businesses and homes in Mckee's Port side neighborhood today known as South Side Flats neighborhoods (now Wylie Heights). In 1892–93 Anthony J. Carbone constructed two large mills on Beaver Creek which produced flour for local mills and exported to other parts of the United States through established channels such as Philadelphia and Baltimore - one mill still exists today operates under this name. This period also saw great growth in agriculture with wire-stitching being developed into an important industry hereabouts; progress was made even greater with respect to transportation infrastructure including open-air railroads connecting McGeesport with surrounding municipalities like Allegheny County and Westmoreland County by way of three crossings – Beaver Dam Road/Bryan Street Bridge over natural stream (now Beaver Falls Boulevard), Steel Mill Road/Miles Avenue Bridge over Nanticoke River (now Forbes Avenue), and Manor Road/Swartz Creek Bridge over rapids near present day Shaler Township (west end) / unincorporated community of McIntyre located along steel mill property line east end). During World War IIMckeesport played host to AAF training camps including Camp Curtin where Japanese officers were trained before their fight against Allied forces at Iwo Jima later that year; additionally numerous airfield sites were used throughout the war such as Beech Grove airport just outside town limits now home to Wrightstown Airport which served military flying operations out OFT during both world wars while Fort Pitts main airport served all USAAF purposes up until 1963 when it merged with Pittsburgh international airport creating one largest airports system in world history! On October 5th, 1903, the first stone for the present-day courthouse was laid by then-Mayor W.H.L. Moody. From its inception until 1923, Mckeesport had one newspaper which was published weekly called “The Herald” Due to World War I and Prohibition, many businesses closed in MckeePort during this time period including a clothier, an insurance agent and even a grocery store However, during prohibition there were some stores that did stay open such as J&R Liquors which is still in business today Upon repeal of prohibition in 1933, many businesses reopened but unfortunately very few people moved into the town because of high taxes imposed by state government The current mayor is Gene Schlosser
