The Lower Burrell Gun Case Company was a family-owned business that made and sold firearms from 1918 to 1971. The company was started by three brothers, John, George, and Harry Burrell. The company became well known for its soft gun cases, which were used to store and carry firearms. During World War I, the Burrell brothers decided to start a manufacturing company in Lower Burrell Township. They named the business the LowerBurrell Gun Case Company. The first product of the company was a case made of spruce wood that could hold up to four rifles or shotguns. In 1919, the LowerBurrell Gun Case Company began selling cases made of hickory wood. These cases were also large enough to fit most handguns. By 1922, the company had produced over 1,000 cases of soft gun cases per year. By 1925, the UpperBurrell GunCase Company had been established and started making cases out of hardwood instead of spruce wood. This change in production caused some problems for the LowerBurrell GunCaseCompany because it did not have enough supply of hardwood . In 1931, Harry Burrell passed away and his sons John and George took over management of the business. From then on until 1971 when it closed down due to lack of orders, John and George burrels managed UpperBurllGunCaseCompany。

The main industry in the community is agriculture with some businesses being involved in manufacturing and services such as education and health care. The majority of residents are affiliated with the United Methodist Church (UMC). UpperBurrell Presbyterian Church has been active since the early 1800s and also provides religious services to residents. There are also several churches associated with Jehovah's Witnesses which have partial or full membership within Lower Burrell Township but no congregation exists outside the township limits

Lower Burrell, Pennsylvania is a census-designated place in Lackawanna County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 1,878 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Scranton–Wilkes-Barre Metropolitan Statistical Area. The community was founded in 1825 by James Lower and his family as a small farming village on the south side of the Lackawanna River. In 1829, Lower Burrell became an unincorporated community when its post office closed. It again lost its status as an unincorporated community when it became part of the Scranton–Wilkes-Barre area.
The Lower Burrell community began as a farming community in 1822. The first settler was Nicholas French, who purchased land from the Lenape Indians. French built a cabin and farmstead on the present site of Lower Burrell in 1824. In 1830, John Mifflin founded the town of UpperBurrell, which was located to the south of LowerBurrell. In 1838, a post office was established in LowerBurrell, and renamed UpperBurrel in 1849. The town had a population of about 100 people by 1860. A school district was organized in 1865 and named after Reverend James Everett (1813-1868). Everett taught at the local schools until his death in 1868.
