In 1860, a new type of shooting target holder was invented that consisted of a frame with two parallel bars that could be held up by either one or both hands. From then on, shooters used these types of Shooting Target Holder to shoot their targets from different positions. During the 1870s and 1880s, Shooters started using gas-fired firearms to shoot targets at distances up to 100 yards. By 1888, all Shooting Target Holders had been replaced by modern steel firing devices that required no preparation before use

The first stop on the Underground Railroad for slaves was found inLowerBurrell during the American Civil War; local resident Amos Davenport aided fugitive slaves arriving at his house from Georgia under Union General Nathan Bedford Forrest's orders on October 9, 1863 (). Also early settlers were Dutch Reformed missionaries who also founded a church at present day Center Township () which served as their farmstead until 1865 (). In 1886, LowerBurrell had its own telephone line (); today's phone exchange resides within Northeast Commuter Service Company's service territory along Kelly Drive (). In 1907, UpperBurrella had its own post office which closed down in 1948 due to low mail volume.; today's address is 5th Street and Delaware Avenue (). At one time or another LowerBurrell has been known as: Bellefonte (), Biglerstown (), Bradytown (), Cumberland Heights (), Eastonville (),[1] Finleyville (), Fort Hill (), Harrisburg Township ())[2][3] Herrmansville ()[4][5], Independence township ()))[6]; Mount Lebanon ());)

In 1881, Lower Burrell became part of the newly created Butler County and had a population of 1,165. Lower Burrell is located at (39.966858, -75.845902). According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of , all of it land. As of the census of 2000, there were 830 people residing in LowerBurrelltownship.[2] There were 908 households out of which 36% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 57% were married couples living together, 10% had a female householder with no husband present, and 28% were non-families. 24% of all households were made up of individuals and 11% had someone living alone who was 65 years old or older. The average household size was 2½ and the average family size was 3½
Lower Burrell was a small town in what is now Union County, Pennsylvania, United States. It was located on the Allegheny River and had a population of about 375 in 1820. The town was destroyed by a fire in 1868 and never rebuilt.
