Lower Burrell is a small town in Butler County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 576 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Johnstown–Allegany, PA Metropolitan Statistical Area. The original settlers of Lower Burrell were William and Mary Drysdale who arrived in 1787. They raised a family of eleven children and four grandchildren in what is now Lower Burrell Township. In 1815, John Caird bought three hundred acres (120 ha) of land from the Drysdale family for $100 cash and named it "Caird's Valley". In 1821, he sold his share in the valley to Abraham Haggerty for $200 more cash. Haggerty built a store on the site in 1824 and named it "Haggerty's Store". He also erected several homes around this time including one known as "Burrell's House", which still stands today. By 1830, Lower Burrell had a school, Baptist chapel, post office, blacksmith shop and two stores - one run by Haggerty himself and another by his son-in-law James Craighead. During the 1840s Lower Burrell became an important stop on the road between Johnstown and Altoona because of its strategic location near both points. In 1846 Upper Burrell was established as a separate township when Butler County was divided into two parts along racial lines. The first part to be created contained Upper Burrel while the second included all of what is now Butler County except for Lower Burrel Township which remained within Johnston Borough until 1974 when it became part of Allegany Township statewide. LowerBurrella lost its status as an incorporated village after being formally incorporated by Act No. 4of1983 (P distraction). On November 15th 1987 lower burrell applied for incorporation but did not receive approval from then township president Don Ziegler until May 14th 1988 due to lack of support from other community members

Lower Burrell was a small town located in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, United States. It is now a ghost town, and is not open to the public. The original Lower Burrell post office was established on December 12, 1811 (date unknown), and it closed its doors on July 15, 1902. The town was named for Colonel John Lower Burrell, an American Revolutionary War general who fought at Saratoga. At one time Lower Burrell had a population of around 100 people. However, by 1910 it had decreased to just 10 residents. Today much of Lower Burrell has been destroyed by fire or other natural causes; there is still no evidence remaining of the once vibrant community. The first settler in what is now lowerBurrell was John Settle who arrived in 1795 from Ireland. He built a small cabin near where he later lived until 1810 when he sold his land to George Armstrong and family for $8 per acre (about £2/$4). In 1814, Andrew Brown moved into the area from Scotland and started farming with his brother James Brown also living near present day UpperBurrell Creek Village which developed as a result of this early settlement. By 1840 there were only five families living in LowerBurrell while over 60 families lived in what is now upperBurrell Township including those that founded Armstrongstown along with many more immigrants during the late 1800s & early 1900s following waves of immigration throughout central PA & beyond! On July 15th 1902 local citizens voted 3-to-1 against annexing neighboring UpperBurrella Township because they felt that their population would be too small to support such an annexation without corresponding growth! This vote signaled the beginning of lowerBurrell's decline as most residents either left or died out during World War I – making it difficult for new settlers to come by – combined with declining production values due to changes brought about by technological advancements like oil fracking etc., all contributing factors leading up to its abandonment some 50 years later! “In 1902 little could be seen but destruction; all vestiges of life had long since passed away leaving behind nothing but ashes and memories”—Lower Burrel Historical Society 1971 plaque
Lower Burrell was a small town in Huntingdon County, Pennsylvania, United States. It was located on the Susquehanna River, about northwest of Allentown. Lower Burrell post office operated from 1812 to 1814. The first settler in Lower Burrell was John Early.
