Red Dot Sight History in Lower Burrell, Pennsylvania Lower Burrell is a town located in Lackawanna County, Pennsylvania, United States. It was founded in 1795 and named for Colonel James Lowery. In 1815, the town had a population of 350. It lost its status as an incorporated municipality in 1907 and ceased to exist as a parish within the Diocese of Scranton in 1951. The current community of Lower Burrell was established on February 1, 2009 by joining the Unorganized Boroughs of Southwick and Springettsbury Township. The first red dot sight system set up in LowerBurrell was installed by Detective Sergeant John Kappes of the PSP ( Policemen's Professional Standards Division) on October 14th, 1954 at the behest of then-Mayor Edward Gormley. The system was designed to provide law enforcement with real-time information concerning suspicious activity occurring anywhere within a three-mile radius of UpperBurrell police headquarters. At its peak usage during the late 1960s and 1970s, Det Sgt Kappes' Red Dot sight system consisted of more than 100 receivers scattered throughout UpperBurrell village limits. Today's red dot sights are still used selectively by law enforcement officers throughout Lackawanna County due to their accuracies and convenience when working together in close quarters. As part of National Gun Violence Prevention Month (#LackawannaCountyGunsWeek), Lower Burrella will be hosting an event featuring representatives from local law enforcement agencies on Sunday January 26th from 3pm - 5pm at St Peters Catholic Church which will feature demonstrations on how to use red dots sights effectively while also educating citizens about gun violence prevention issues

Lower Burrell is a small town in the U.S. state of Pennsylvania, located about 20 miles (31 km) northeast of Pittsburgh and 36 miles (59 km) northwest of Philadelphia. As of the 2010 census, the population was 5,867. The name Lower Burrell is derived from LOWER BURRELL ville which was first settled by Germans in 1784. The original village site was on the east side of what is now called Main Street in Lower Burrell Township. The township grew up around farms and villages that dotted the rolling hills to the north and west until it became part of Clearfield Township in 1853. In 1868, when Clearfield Township was merged into Butler County, Lower Burrell became part of Butler County as well. In 1892, when Butler County was divided into four districts, LowerBurrell joined District 2 within District 3; however, it reverted to its original status as a unincorporated community after District 3 disbanded in 1998. Lower Burrell's post office opened on October 15, 1840, and closed on December 1st of that year due to lack of subscribers; it reopened on January 9th under new management with mail service provided by a stagecoach company from New Kensington (now Philadelphia). For many years this service remained an important connection between lower burrels and their larger neighbors to the east and west; however during World War II most services were suspended because trains did not run betweenlower burrels and Philadelphia/Greensburg because Of wartime restrictions on coal transportation

LowerBurrel has been home to several factories during its history: Mahle & Sons sewing machines from 1915 to 1955, Colt Firearms Factory from 1921 to 1945, Fidelity National Bank from 1924 to 1954, United States Rubber Company from 1908 to 1928, Whitehall Glass Works from 1907 to 1912. In addition, LowerBurrel has been home to several theaters over the years: First National Playhouse (1930-1933), Lincoln Financial Field (1960-1963), Keystone Theater (1959-1960), Peoples Temple Auditorium (1968-1969) and Center Stage Theatre (1974-1975).
