In 1799, Lower Burrell was incorporated as a borough; however, it remained an agricultural community until after World War II when manufacturing became more important in the area. The decline of agriculture began gradually in the early 21st century as technology advanced and new markets were developed for products such as textiles, plastics and food products. This means that most of the year it experiences temperatures between 75 °F (24 °C) and 95 °F (36 °C), with some rare exceptions such as during winter months when it reaches 100 °F (38 °C).
