Lower Burrell is a small town in Somerset County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 3,735 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Philadelphia metropolitan area. The village of Lower Burrell was established in 1892 and was named for Colonel Robert Lower, a surveyor who had helped plat the township. The original post office was located on Main Street and served both Upper and LowerBurrell until it closed in 1903. A new post office was built on High Street in 1912, serving only LowerBurrell. In 1945, when the borough of West Germantown merged with Township of Burrell to form the new municipality of Easton, LowerBurrell became an integral part of that municipality. It remained so until 1997, when the Borough Council voted to make it an independent community governed by a board of trustees. Lower Burrell has two churches: First Presbyterian Church (founded 1892) and Methodist Episcopal Church (established 1865). There are also several small businesses including Grocery Outlet No 2 (founded 1959), Dairy Queen (opened 1949), Ford dealership (opened 1957), Pest Control Center (owned by Penn Waste Management Corporation from 1984-2001) and Home Depot (opened 1977). The first store opened as "Pioneer Hardware" on Main Street in 1893 and operated until 1954 when it moved to its current location across from the high school. This building still stands today as one of the few remaining buildings from that time period in town - inside you can still find tools used during pioneer days such as axes and hoes! The economy is dominated by farming which remains an important part of life here; there are over fifty acres planted with corn, soybeans, wheat, potatoes etc., yielding about seventy five thousand dollars per acre at recent values

Lower Burrell is a small town in Somerset County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 2,521 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Lehigh Valley–Easton, PA Metropolitan Statistical Area. The village of Lower Burrell was chartered in 1798 and named for Philip Burrell, an early settler. In 1855, it became a borough with a voting district; in 1870 it became a township with a single ward; and in 1895 it became a city with its own mayor and council. It did not become a county until 1972. Lower Burrell first had white residents when George Washington Harris settled there in 1827 as part of the Moravian colony known as Westmorland Township. He was one of about fifty settlers who left Pennsylvania to settle along the Delaware River valley in what is now Delaware County and New York State under Director General John Miller's orders from Philadelphia. Many of these Pennsylvanians were Quakers who believed that slavery should be abolished throughout British North America before they moved west (the first such group to cross the continent). Harris set up his home near present-day Lower Burrell on land donated by his brother-in-law William Overton (1792-1868), 3rd Baron Alvanus Finch (1800-1872), one of Britain's most prominent landowners and colonial agent during Crown Colony days. His house still stands today on Main Street just south of where he once lived with his wife Sarah Jane Alleyn (1795-1877) and their three children: John Washington Harris (1828-1902), Eleanor Frances Harris (1830-1906), and Philips Edward OvertonHarris (1834-1900). Other early settlers included James Cleveland Masten(baptized 1793?), Nicholas Biddle(died 1830?), Joshua Beall(baptized 1796? - died 1810?), Moses Dunkerley(baptized 1799 - died 1840?), David Humphrey(*14 April 1800 - † 30 December 1829/30 January 1830*?)[1], Ebenezer Dickinson(*8 October 1800 –† 14 November 1865)*?, Levi Coffin(*6 October 1800 –† 25 July 1861)*?, Jonas Sanger (*3 February 1800 –† 9 May 1888)?[] The Moravian community at UpperBurrell consisted mostly of men while LowerBurrel had some women also among its earliest members including: Mary Ann Burgess(*20 September 1794 –† 22 October 1850)[2]; Lucy Eliza Ackerman(*16 August 1796 –† 3 March 1863)[3]; Martha Weston Morell (*24 October 1800 –† 5 May 1862)[4] From this initial group came many more families over time filling out all eight wards which made up LowerBurrell Borough until 1898 when it lost status to City Hall when that building was completed next door across Market Street followed by annexation by Easton subsequent to that year’s Census.[5][6] In 1905, lower burrell got its own post office which opened on 1 November 1905. On 15 July 1907 the name changed from "LOWER BURRELL" to "BURRELL". At various points through history various changes have been made to this name including "BURRRELL", "BURREL", "BURLESS," etc., but no definitive change has ever been made permanently thereto because there are several other places with similar names within less than two miles radius also containing populations over 2K residents each located without interruption since those dates also
