The original settlers were Scottish-Irish immigrants who arrived in1784. For many years they managed the land themselves, but gradually they began to sell their crops to others and build homes. By 1800, about 60% of the residents were Irish Catholics. In 1838, when Lebanon gained independence from Scotland, most of these Irish Catholics left for what would become America because of religious persecution at home. These new arrivals founded Lebanon as an Independent Country which lasted until 1918 when it merged with Syria into modern day Israel after a bloody war known as Partition of British Palestine

Lebanon, Pennsylvania was a small town in Berks County, Pennsylvania until the late 1800s. It is now part of the Altoona-Johnstown-Montgomery School District. The first settlers in Lebanon were farmers who arrived in 1786. By 1810, the population had grown to around 100 people. In 1827, Lebanon lost its charter as a borough and became a village. The village changed hands many times before it was annexed by Altoona in 1871. In 1922, Lebanon became part of the new United States after World War I and experienced growth as an agricultural center with cotton plantations and other businesses such as a grocery store and library opened up during that time period. The economy declined during the Great Depression but recovered starting in the early 1940s when manufacturing returned to Lebanon after being eliminated elsewhere in Pennsylvania due to cheap labor from neighboring states. In 1978, Sharon Township merged with Beirut Township which increased its population by 10%. In 1984, Bethlehem Steel closed its plant there and most of the businesses closed down along with most jobs; however, Lebanon still has one business left today (a restaurant) which continues to be successful even though much of its infrastructure has been destroyed over time including homes and businesses that used to belong to those who once worked at Steel plants there
