Lebanon, Pennsylvania is a small town located in the State of Pennsylvania. As one of the oldest communities in the area, Lebanon has an extensive history with optical accessories. In 1892, Justus A. Sisk and Benjamin Fenton opened what would become known as "The Optical Shop" in what is now the downtown core of Lebanon. The shop was soon selling optical supplies to local farmers and merchants. In 1916, Mrs. Sidney Wistar founded the Ladies' League for Helping Children in Need (later known as The Friends of Lebanon) which donated money to support local charities. In 1929, Mr. and Mrs. Harry Elkins started the first movie theater in Lebanon when they opened the Lebanese Theatre on Main Street. The theatre continued to play films until it closed in 1978 due to financial difficulty. From 1928-1978, Lebanese also produced its own radio station entitled Radio Beirut (RBI). In 1954, Drs., Lester Jaffe and Irwin Weisman purchased a building at 8th and Front Streets which became known as "The Institute". This facility offered classes and workshops on everything from woodworking to photography to home design. It was here that Drs., Jaffe and Weisman developed their famous spectrograph which allowed them to study light rays into their atomic structure! From 1955-1983, The Institute functioned as both a research center and a school for students from nearby businesses including Bethlehem Steel Corporation who were enrolled in its chromatography class! One year later, on October 9th 1983, The Institute closed its doors after over fifty years of operation! Today's buildings on Eighth Street serve as archives for both The Institute's archives (#10), along with other historic facilities located throughout downtown Lebanon (#9), making this once again an important community resource!

Lebanon is a small, rural town located in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. As of the 2010 census, its population was 5,594. The community is named for Lebanese refugees who settled in the area after World War I. Lebanon is home to two mosques and several churches. It has a small grocery store and one barber shop. Lebanon began as a farmers' market town with a few dollars worth of goods sold every day. By 1932, it had grown to include a post office, bank, hotel, and schools. In 1949, when Lebanon became part of the United States as part of the American Revolution following independence from Great Britain, many of its citizens emigrated to Canada or other parts of North America. In 1971-72, Lebanon consolidated with nearby townships to form Lebanon Township which still remains an agricultural township today with over seventy farms totaling over sixty acres (twenty hectares). The township's namesake is Beirut - an early settler who founded the community in 1881 near present-day Market Street and Springdale Road. Today's businesses include three banks - First National Bank (founded 1915), Citizens Bank (founded 1888), and Westmoreland County Trust Company (founded 1912).

In 1820, Lebanon became the capital of the United States under President James K. Polk. The city experienced rapid growth during the early 20th century and by 1920 had become one of America's most populous cities. However, economic decline and social unrest led to Lebanon's eventual bankruptcy in 1930. Since then, the city has made progress through redevelopment efforts and has regained some of its former glory as a center for business and culture.
Lebanon, Pennsylvania was founded on a farm in 1792. The first post office in Lebanon was established in 1802. In 1859, the town of Lebanon was incorporated as a borough. In 1916, the town of Lebanon and the Borough of York were merged to form the city of Lebanon. On July 1, 1967, the city of Lebanon seceded from Pennsylvania and became an independent republic within the United States
