Lebanon, Pennsylvania is a small town in Butler County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 1,898 at the 2010 census. It is the smallest of the six towns in Butler County. Lebanon was first settled by Quakers in 1784. The current town site was laid out in 1818 when part of what is now Butler County became part of the new state of Indiana. Lebanon was founded on November 3, 1784 by Quakers who arrived from Northampton Township (now Westmoreland) in Philadelphia along with other newcomers that day on a oxcart from Wilmington, Delaware. They named their new community after Mount Lebanon on the Susquehanna River which they had seen from their farmstead at Rockspring near present-day Springboro and which they rappelled down to explore forays into upper Pennsylvanian country. The original village consisted of about seventy families and lay within what is now the eastern edge of Armstrong Township and parts of Clearfield Township today. The first settler to log a claim in present-day Lebanon was John Middleton who claimed land east of the Susquehanna River opposite where modern day Armstrong and Clearfield Townships meet today’s township boundaries on July 9, 1800. John Middleton’s heirs sold additional land west of this initial holdings over time until all but one acre remained unclaimed until 1825 when Amos Bradford patented an addition two miles due north including what is now town creek bed between Main Street and State Road 20/22 In 1827 it became clear that there would be more people moving into this area as development made way for another railroad construction project so an act were passed voiding any future claims to lands east or west side Rivers Rd., just south & southeast corner ol Lebanon Creek & Main Streets
When Europeans first arrived in North America, they brought with them the art of gunnery. The native peoples had no firearms and were largely unarmed when they confronted European invaders. The early Europeans relied on bows and arrows to shoot at targets from a distance. As technology advanced, the need for better-aimed firearms arose. Gun sights evolved over time to meet the needs of shooters. One of the earliest sighting devices was a crossbow sight known as an ortega (“or” = point, “tega” = stick). A crossbow sight consisted of a long tube that fit into an armhole on the stock of a gun, used to direct fire by sighting along its length. It was easy to adjust and could be rotated 360 degrees so that it could face any direction in which the shooter might be facing. The development of artillery changed warfare forever. Modern rifles are able to fired projectiles at high speed, making it necessary for accurate shot placement on target not only at close range but also at long ranges where accuracy is essential for success in battle. Gunners must now rely on sights systems that provide accurate aiming information regardless of weather conditions or terrain considerations.
On December 15, 1878, Nicholas-Jacques Conte patented the design for a modern revolver sights. The first modern revolver sights were made by French gunsmiths Emile and Henri Chapuis. They used an open sight system with 4 small circles that could be moved around to adjust the aiming point. The original targets used on revolvers wereOptical Fibre Guided Ammunition (OFA). In 1888, a new type of ammunition called “Snapshot” was developed which had smaller pellets that would fit in the eye of a rifle scope. This ammunition was much more effective than OFA and became popular on target shooting sports such as Winchester’s Model 1895 hunting rifle. In 1903, a company named H&R began making pistols with side-by-side barrels where each barrel had its own set of front and back sights. These guns were known as “Herschel & Dodge” pistols because their manufacturer, H&R Arms, manufactured them in Herschelstown, Pennsylvania. Side-by-side barrels became very popular because they allowed for easier target acquisition and better accuracy when firing single shots at close range. In 1911, three brothers named George Dunne invented what is now known as Target Master Sight technology which allowed shooters to adjust their aim points with ease while firing handguns using the touch screen display on their cell phones or other electronic devices.
Lebanon, Pennsylvania is a small town in Butler County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 1,965 at the 2010 census. It was founded in 1793 and named for the Lebanese village of al-Qatha near Beirut. In 1814 Lebanon became part of the United States as a result of the Treaty of Ghent; it remained part until 1860 when it merged with Butler County to form this present county. Lebanon is located on Interstate 81 and State Route 279 north-northeast of Chambersburg. It has a public school system with six schools: Lebanon Elementary School, Lebanon Junior High School, Lebanon Senior High School, North Lebanon Intermediate/Secondary School (now Glen Echo Middle), and South Lebanon Intermediate/Secondary School (now Easton). There are also two private schools in town: Mount Carmel Academy and Presbyterian Day Care Center. According to the 2000 census there were 1,898 people in Lebanon proper; however according to the 2009 estimate there were 2,093 residents living within limits included within Lebannon Township which forms part of Lebannon Borough. According to the 2010 US Census report there were 1,965 residents living within limits included within Lebannon Township who identify as Lebanese Americans or other Arabs or Muslims making up almost 60% of its population while only 26% identify as American citizens
Lebanon, Pennsylvania was founded in 1718 by George Washington and his family. The town is located in Northampton County, Pennsylvania. It was originally called Newtown but changed its name to Lebanon after the United States acquired it from Great Britain in 1801.
