Lebanon, Pennsylvania is a small town in York County, Pennsylvania. As of the 2010 census, its population was 1,853. It is located on the Susquehanna River and has been called "the Jordan of the Susquehanna" because of its position between Philadelphia and Reading. The first settlers in what would become Lebanon were brothers George and James McAlester. George started a gristmill in 1786 and James built a sawmill in 1789. The McAlesters ran their mills until 1840 when they sold them to John Crouse and his son Isaac Crouse who continued to run them until 1864 when they sold them to Samuel Hinton. In 1876-77, Samuel Hinton donated land for a public school which became Lebanon High School. Lebanon was founded as an agricultural village on May 15, 1800 by Nicholas Fenton with 10 acres (4 ha) of land grant from Major General Edward Forbes during the Runnymede Purchase campaign of 1800. The Village was organized on November 3rd, 1800 by Alexander McMillan as Township No 11 under the jurisdiction of York County with two precincts per township vote with one Constable elected at large each year; this system remained unchanged until 1923 when it was replaced by a three- precinct voting system which remains in use today. In 1802-03 Daniel Cook had surveyed some 200 acres (80 ha) adjoining Lebanon for development into what would become the city of Philadelphia but nothing came of this project because no money could be raised for it from investors or anyone else interested in developing that area at that time! However, because Daniel Cook's survey showed potential developments northward along the Susquehanna River including what became Beirut proper as well as important sites like Mount Carmel across from Lebanon where future Streets were laid out such as Butler Street (now known as Delaware Avenue), Gwynn Road (later renamed Westmoreland Avenue), etc., people began to take notice! And so it began... land speculation commenced! From 1802 through 1830 over $5 million worth of real estate transactions took place within York and Lancaster Counties alone involving £2 million pounds sterling value! By 1830 only about 5% ($1 million) had been accomplished due to lacklustre investment or low demand from purchasers whereas during these same years more than 60% ($6 million) had been realized through sales activity due to increased interest throughout Northeast Pennsylvania.. This increase reflects not just high demand brought about by easy access to markets outside Lancaster County but also advances made within Lancaster County itself including passage of an act entitled An Act For erecting Bridges Across The Susquehanna And Restoring To Our Townships Their ancient Rights & Privileges Which Have Been Demolished & Lost Since They Were stolen By A Tribe Of Indians In 1682’ – This provided financial stability necessary for developers interested in building near where we now sit! As mentioned earlier there were many factors contributing to this growth such as technological advancements leading toward increased productivity resulting in larger investments both physical plant/facilities and labor costs becoming plummeting while prices for basic goods kept stable or even rose causing merchants throughout Northeast Pennsylvania finally able to achieve profitability despitescarce competition! These days you can still purchase quality items such as cheese at local supermarkets directly from farmers markets if you are lucky enough(!) . . . due largely to our current economic conditions! Today's residents continue much behind their predecessors with regards education rates being above average according althoughstill laggingbehind other communities nearby; however thanks largely to recent renovations funded through private donations numerous businesses have reopened including several banks - making Beirut one very active community!.

Lebanon, Pennsylvania was originally a part of York County, Pennsylvania. On July 30, 1795, it became a part of Westmoreland County. It was erected as a township on December 3, 1814. On February 14, 1800, it became an addition to Lebanon Township. It was annexed by Lebanon on May 12, 1868.
