In 1865, when Pennsylvania became a state, Lansdowne became part of Berks County and was incorporated as a borough seat with its own government. Its post office continued to be named after George Lansdowne until 1912; then it began to be called "Lansdownsville." In 1918, under Commonwealth Act No. 527 (now PEP law), LanesDowne lost its borough status but kept its ZIP code because it had been annexed by Reading during that decade as part of that larger municipality's growth into an agglomeration with more than 15 square miles (30 km²). The community experienced rapid growth following World War II due to war-related production: Papermaking resumed after World War II as well as new manufacturing including plastics and electronic equipment; retail development followed with several large shopping malls opening throughout Berks County between 1950 and 1970. After leaving office, he moved to Parsippany, New Jersey and died there in 1807. Samuel Lansdowne also played an important role in early Pennsylvania politics and served as secretary of state from 1792 to 1800 under George Washington. He later became a justice of the peace for Huntingdon County, Pennsylvania before dying there in 1847 aged 77 years old. Therese's grandson, Alfred Waddington Bruce Bruce (1901-1994), became an American Representative from Oregon during the 1960s and 1970s and is considered one of Pacific Northwest history's most influential figures
