Lansdowne is located on the north side of the Steuben County line and east of the Village of Sayre. It is part of the Pittsburgh metropolitan area. The first white people to settle in Lansdowne were Jonathan Lansdown and his family who arrived from Delaware in 1784. They built a cabin on what is now Lansdowne Heights Road. The Landonees began to purchase land and build homes around 1810-1815, when they donated over two acres (0.8 km2) for a gristmillrace that would become known as Lansdowne Mill Pond. In 1825, John Fenton purchased 2,000 acres (9 km2) in present-day Lansdowne Township from Captain Benjamin Ketcham for $7 per acre (3 per km2). This land included many mills that continue to operate today including: Wernersville Cement Works; Beechcroft Coal Mine; Cambria Iron & Steel Company; LaPorta Glass Company; and Brownstown Oil & Gas Company among others. Homes began being built on this property between 1830 and 1840 by local farmers such as John Dorney, Elijah Hicks, Ebenezer Pillsbury and Sarah Welshman Hunt who raised crops and raised livestock until 1865 when electric lights became available in America which led to an agricultural revolution with larger farms using more mechanized equipment such as tractors instead of men working on large teams with horses or wagons carrying goods across country

Lansdowne was a small town in Bucks County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 996 at the 2000 census. It is located on the south side of Lansdowne Township and is part of the Philadelphia metropolitan area. The first settler in Lansdowne was John Lansdowne who arrived in 1764. In 1808, James Waddell built a gristmill on the confluence of the Delaware and Monongahela Rivers and named it for his father-in-law, John Waddell Sr. In 1825, William Ducharme bought land from James Waddell and founded what became Lansdowne Township. In 1824, William Ducharme erected a two-story stone courthouse which still stands today at 13th and Market Streets in Lansdowne Township. This courthouse served as court house until 1898 when it was replaced by the present courthouse building which also serves as township hall. The first school in LansDOWNE was built in 1824 by Revs Rufus Sellers (1784-1848), George Hickman (1805-76) and Eli Haggerty (1809-62). A second school building was erected soon afterwards but burned down in 1830; this fire also destroyed much of the original settlement including most of the gristmill buildings mentioned earlier. In 1858, pioneer farmer Amos Minton donated land to build a schoolhouse which served as township hall until 1902 when it moved to its current location across from town square. During World War II, many civilians living near Lancaster Air Base were housed at nearby Beecham Hall while aircraft production took place at nearby Wright Field; however, no schools were ever built within LansDOWNE itself to accommodate these students although there are now several elementary schools located within walking distance of both town square and central business district of Philadelphia proper (including one serving students from both towns). A large new shopping center called "Lansdowns" has been developed just north of town square since 1997 - plans call for an even larger development currently under way!
