After the war, Lansdowne experienced rapid growth due to its proximity to Pittsburgh and its industry including shoe manufacturing, steelmaking, leather production, printing presses etcetera. Gun sales continued throughout this period but also grew more complex with increasing numbers of handguns available for purchase including revolvers (which were still considered “uncommon items” at this time), shotguns (which became more popular after regulation passed placing limits on ammunition sales) as well as rifles (such as those used by militias). In 1951, the community began to grow with annexations from other villages around Potter County and now has over 12 square miles of land within its boundaries

Lansdowne is named after Samuel Lansdowne, who emigrated from England in 1729 and founded a mill there. The first settlers to Lansdowne were John and Mary White; their son Samuel also settled there in 1751. He became treasurer of Bucks County and one of its commissioners. In 1772, he donated land to the town for its current site. From 1827 to 1828, Lansdowne had its own post office. Lansdowne experienced great growth during the 19th century because it became an important center for flour production and transportation within the Philadelphia area. Manufacturing including tannery, papermaking, shoe making and other businesses developed here as well. During World War I, many residents served in the military or worked on munitions factories throughout Pennsylvania; some are still living in Lansdownse today. In 1955, local schools merged with neighboring Carbonia to form Central School District No. 1010 (later renamed Delaware Valley School District). The merger resulted in a decrease in enrollment at both schools but kept them open until 1984 when they merged into Central School District 1023 (later renamed Harrisburg Area School District). As per district policy at that time charters were allowed only within CD 1023 boundaries - which included LansDOWNE - so when Central school district moved out of CRD 1023 boundaries in 1993 it lost all its students back to LansDOWNE again!
