Lansdowne is a town in York County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 1,898 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Harrisburg-Carlisle-York metropolitan area. Lansdowne was founded in 1797 by John Lansdowne and his wife Susannah Brown. The first store in Lansdowne opened on the corner of Third Street and Washington Avenue. The town was named after George Lansdowne, one of its founders. In 1814, a millrace called the "Lansdaniel" ran through Lansdowne and created water mills along it for several years until 1850 when it was abandoned due to flooding from nearby rivers. In 1865, an act of Congress designated Landsowne as a township with a vote of 3–0 to make it operational as an incorporated community under the name Township of Lansdale which had been organized four years earlier by Order Number 9 from Chester County Executive James Kappler pursuant to Act No. 524 of 1864 which provided for incorporation by vote of all civil officers within ten miles (16 km) of Philadelphia and Carlisle Districts 2 & 3 within five miles (8 km) thereof into one body politic with power to exercise such rights and privileges as may be conferred upon them by law or ordinance duly passed therein; also provided that no person holding any land within three miles (6 km) radius thereof shall be disqualified from voting therein on account thereof; In 1876, Two Miles Creek Run stream was diverted southward through Landsowne Township so that parts now located in Johnstown Borough were included within the new township limits; this change resulted in two townships having two different names but with similar borders: Landsowne and Johnstown Borough were renamed Beaufort Township and Blair Township respectively. In 1907, Bethlehem Steel Corporation built its steelworks east of what is now Lansdale Boulevard between Second Street and Fourth Street which led to increased development around this spot including homes being built on top of steel plants over time making it difficult for people close to these operations to move away without losing their homes. As a result, businesses around these industrial areas began moving out too so that present day Lansdale Boulevard became known as Steel Boulevard

Lansdowne is a small town in Berks County, Pennsylvania, United States. It was founded in 1776 by John Lansdowne and his family. The Lansdownes were among the earliest settlers of what is now Lansdowne Township. In 1814, the township was organized into a separate borough. The first post office at Lansdowne was established in 1776, and remained in operation until 1907. The first settler to be named John Lansdowne was born in 1756 in Northampton County, England. He came to America with his parents on the Mayflower and arrived at Plymouth Colony on July 12, 1620. After arriving in New England he married Mary Howland and they returned to Northampton County after her death in 1626. They had four children: John (1627-1712), Susanna (1629-1701), Thomas (1631-1702) and Margaret (1633-1806). In 1776, John LansDOWNE moved from Northampton County to become the first white settler of what is now Lansdowne Township. He built a log cabin on the side of a hill overlooking the Schuylkill River where he raised corn and potatoes for his household using an oxcart service that traveled between Lancaster and Yorktown Heights along this route today known as "The Old Road". His home still stands within present day Lansdownse Township limits; it has been renovated many times but remains one of the few remaining originals from that early era of Pennsylvania society
Lansdowne was founded in 1753 by John Lansdowne, a Revolutionary War veteran. The town was named after the Lansdowne family, which owned lands in the area. In 1815, Lansdowne became part of the United States of America and was renamed Philadelphia.
