In 1837, the town of Lansdowne merged with nearby Huntingdon to form Oneida Township. The first settler in what is now Lansdowne was John Lansdowne Sr., who arrived there in 1768 from England with his wife Elizabeth and their three children. John's brother Nathaniel had also settled there earlier that year. In 1769, John's youngest son Samuel married Mary Thomson, daughter of Hugh Thomson of Huntingdon Township. By 1800, Samuel had six children: five sons and one daughter—John, Jane (b born about 1770; d 1827), Sarah (b ca1775; d ca1857), Lydia (b ca1778; d ca1860), Hannah (b ca1780; d c 1828)——and two daughters-in-law: Maria Bashford (bca 1785; d m 1830) and Deborah Price (died 1840). In 1837, Oneida Township merged with neighboring Huntingdon to form Lansdowne township. The townships were named for General Sir Sidney Mansfield Lambourn (1754-1824)—a British general who fought against the French and Indian War on the side of Great Britain and later became a member of Parliament—and his father-in-law Colonel James Stewart Macready ([1]). This merger enabled farmers in both townships to own more land within their respective boundaries and helped increase trade between the two villages because goods purchased in one village would be transported to another without having to go through Merchant Marine channels or waiting for export orders from London. Oneida Township contained 204 farms stretching eastward to Schoolcraft Creek while Huntingdon township contained 97 farms extending westward into Fayette County. Lands comprising both townships were surveyed together beginning in 1800 but it wasn't until May 3, 1838 that they actually became official when all property titles were recorded along Schoolcraft Creek Road which ran through each township centreline. With this new system properties within both townships could be divided equally among landowners no matter how much land they owned - something that proved very beneficial as traffic congestion began becoming increasingly common due to increasing populations density on roads connecting different parts of the county during this period.) Lansdownsie adjoins Lebanon Valley along Schoolcraft Creek Road where most churches located until after World War II when they moved into larger facilities nearer Lebanon Valley Elementary school which opened its doors at that time thanks largely to donations from Mrs Fenton Beechum who resided nearby until her death in 1960 aged 89 years old! The community hall built back then still stands today adjacent to Lebanon Valley Middle school! A plaque depicting some of the early settlers can be found on display at these schools today!
