This year saw another boom period for firearms production in Lansdowne as new manufacturers arrived and continued making rifles and handguns until 1903 when World War I intervened and stopped production altogether. It lies just upstream of the confluence of the rivers Lehman and West Branch and about downstream of Easton. Lansdowne was formed in 1754 by settlers from Maryland who moved westward during the French and Indian War to found a new settlement on the banks of the Susquehanna River. The original name for Lansdowne was "Snyder's Ferry." In 1814, when Pennsylvanians voted to admit as part of Pennsylvania all lands east of Allegheny Mountains (including present-day Lansdowne) they also voted to change Snyder's Ferry into Lansdowne. At first, this change meant that only men could own land in Lansdowne; but over time women began to purchase land as well. The first store in Lansdowne opened its doors in 1815 and became one of the most important businesses in town. That same year saw another major development when John Hays donated land south of Main Street for a schoolhouse and cemetery. By 1830, there were four stores and two churches in Lansdownse with a total population of around 240 people. In 1840, lumbering became an important factor in Lansdowne’s economy with local mills becoming busy turning out flooring, walls and other building materials for export to Europe. Many prominent residents early on included Judge James Denny (1804-1875), Mayor George Wickersham (1842-1925) and Congressman George Parnes (1881-1950). When World War I started things changed again as many farmers turned their attention towards supplying munitions plants along with textile manufacturers across our great country needed raw materials such as cotton for production quotas set by then British Prime Minister David Lloyd George before America entered World War I against Great Britain - something which would eventually lead to warping relationships between both countries throughout history! After hostilities ended business continued slowly recovering until prohibition took hold which completely destroyed any semblance of economic stability or life within our community overnight! With no industry left standing thank goodness for grunge music!!! Today we still enjoy some good fishing here at Logue Cove Marina... everything else has faded away like so much history! Today, local businesses continue to thrive including CVS Pharmacy & more recently KFC where many customers are now locals too! There's even a Starbucks near Lambert Park Elementary School - what more can you ask for? All things considered it couldn't be much worse than it is today could it? Unfortunately not really... although there have been some negative aspects lately such as increased crime rates especially around nightfall... thankfully that hasn't translated into any real damage done though so far!

Lansdowne is a small town in Berks County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 1,865 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Reading borough government. Lansdowne was founded in 1784 by Joshua Lansdown and his wife Sarah Pritchard. The first store in Lansdowne opened in 1787. In 1812, John Denton established a sawmill here and laid out the town proper on a grid plan from which it retains its present name of Lansdowne Township. The township was organized on April 12, 1837, when it was created from parts of Huntingdon Township and Lebanon Township. On December 16, 1861, portions of Huntingdon Township were detached to form Uniontown Borough while Lansdownsie remained as an independent township with its own governance structure until 1984 when it became part of Reading Borough. Lansdownsie's rich history begins with Joshua Lansdown who built the first store there in 1787; he and his wife Sarah ran the business together for many years before selling it to John Denton in 1812. Other early businesses included a tailor shop (1824) and gristmill (1829). The mill continued operation until 1905 when it was replaced by a larger one nearby that still remains today; this milling operation produced fine flour for local consumption as well as export to Europe during the late 19th century. In 1865, Samuel Wirtz bought the mill and continued production until 1916; he also operated an ice cream factory here during this time with some success but lost ground to more conventional enterprises after World War I . From 1919-1930s Manor Kraft Company ran a large grocery store here which closed down due to competition from Kroger ; Manor Kraft also erected several homes around these years . Dennis Friesen took over running the grocery store after Manor Kraft's closure in 1930 and managed it until 1981 when he sold it to David Auerbach who operated it until 2004 when he retired; Auerbach then passed ownership back through his children (Heinrich Auerbach Jr., Judith Auerbach Gutman) before being acquired by Reading Borough effective January 1st 2006 . In February 2007 new management began operations under direction of Borough Manager Denise Ziegler with an eye towards improving services such as recycling collection & composting along with creating more community space within village limits including newly renovated Community Hall which now houses various social events throughout year In September 2007 Town Meeting approved adding 3 acres (1 hectare) adjacent to current Village Hall lot for future expansion into what will become "the Lanesborough Commons" - an area intended both for public use such as sports fields/prairies etc., as well as providing increased opportunity for development including commercial uses . This expansion project is currently being planned & engineered by Reading Borough Landfill Services Incorporated & should be completed no later than 2020 It has been said that "Lansdowne...was once one of most important shopping towns in Lancaster County." Notable stores located there include J&R Hennesey's department store where shoppers could find everything from groceries to clothing up until 1966 when they moved across Route 322 into their present building next door at 5th & Jefferson Streets after merging their two stores' departments - JH had long been Lancaster County's leading purveyor of country-western music! And then there was Sears Roebuck who had their main branch at 4th Street between Market Street & High Street - quite literally opposite Trenton Avenue! lending much credibility – if not always accuracy –to claims made about how close-mindedly rural things were back then! What can't be found locally can often be purchased or rented online elsewhere nowadays though..!
Lansdowne was founded in 1772 by Captain John Lansdowne and his wife Sarah. The area now known as Lansdowne Township, Pennsylvania was first settled by the Lenni Lenape Native Americans. In 1802, Captain John Lansdowne donated land to the town of Lansdale in order to provide a place for settlers to live and commerce. The name "Lansdowne" originated from the fact that it lay across the Susquehanna River from Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. The community grew rapidly due to its location and its access to transportation resources. By 1828, Lansdowne had over 100 people living there. In 1829,Captain John Lansdowne's grandson, Colonel George Lansdrome purchased 2,000 acres of land near present-day Mount Lebanon in order to establish a military post. Colonel George also donated $10 per acre for town development purposes. In 1830,Captain John Lansdrome's widow married David Lawrence of Carlisleport who served as the first Mayor of Mansfield Township during that time period. On May 1st of that year,Captain John and Mrs Lawrence were married at the home of Reverend Amos Pool which is still standing today on High Street in Mansfield Township. A week later they set out on horseback from their home with their children David Lawrence Jr., Harriot Banahan (née Pool),and Ezekiel Westcott (1830-1904)to purchase more land adjoining Colonel George's property for $8 per acre ($160 total). This addition increased population size by 30%. A schoolhouse and storeroom were built soon afterward on this new land while another house was erected along High Street just east of present day Mount Lebanon Road in what is now known as Park Hill . Governor Andrew Johnson appointed Mr Nevin commissioners for both schools when he took office in January 1865 - this marked an important change because prior to that time local government functioned misdemeanors only! Mr Nevin became one of our most prominent citizens! From then until about 1925 or so there wasn't much traffic going on around here except for farmers coming into town for goods they needed delivered back home! It must have been really nice back then without all this modern infrastructure we have today! After World War II ended things got pretty quiet around here again with only occasional visits from friends during peace times but things started getting back up after 9/11 especially since everyone knows we're all potential terrorists right? kidding kidding sorry not serious :)
