Auerbach named it after himself, expanding its products to include automobile parts and other items not included under Harry Wertheimer's original merchandise list: "Auerbach Automobiles". In 1945 the village had only 1 inhabitant; by 1990 it had grown to over 4500 residents with over 120 businesses within a 2-mile radius of its central square (now known as "The Square"). Today Lansdowne is an active center for economic development with several restaurants and shops open late into the night as well as numerous cultural events throughout the year such as paintball tournaments or farmers markets overflowing with fresh produce from local farmers

Lansdowne was first settled in 1753 by Colonel John Lansdowne and his family. The name originated from the nearby stream called Lansdownee which flowed through the town. The town was originally founded on a farmstead that stood on what is now Lansdowne Avenue. In 1836, the community built its first school which served students until 1856 when it became a day school. In 1907, Lansdowne had its first store and post office. In 1958, it became an incorporated municipality with its own government and social services. Lansdowne has been noted for its historical landmarks such as the old courthouse which still stands today and the Bank of America building which was once home to the local branch of Joesboro Savings Bank (now Wells Fargo). The town also holds annual festivals such as their July Fourth parade and Harvest Festival which celebrates locally grown produce.
