Lansdowne was founded in 1798 by General John Armstrong and his family. The village was named after Sir Thomas Lansdowne, 3rd Baronet of Llanbedr (1568–1630), who had settled near Pottsville in 1681. The Lansdowne Inn is a historic hotel located in Lansdowne and still used as a lodging facility today. It first opened its doors on December 10, 1824 as the "Thousand Islands". In 1903, the first telephone line in Lackawanna County was laid down through Lansdowne and other villages on what is now known as the Main Line Extension of Pennsylvania Railroad's Scranton Branchline. Telephone service began operating from Pease Street Station in Scranton to Lansdale on October 17, 1903. Lans Downie also has an annual fair which takes place during late September or early October each year with many different exhibitors from all over Pennsylvania and upstate New York come to visit their local farmers' markets and booths throughout the village center streetside for shopping options that are both affordable and interesting!

Lansdowne is a town in Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 1,752 at the 2010 census. Lansdowne is part of the Pittsburgh–Lehigh Valley Metropolitan Statistical Area. Lansdowne was founded by John Lansdown and his family in 1798. It became an independent borough in 1834 and again became a town in 1893. In 1906, it incorporated as a city. The name comes from the Dutch word "lantwijn" meaning "wine." John Lansdown settled on a tract of land that bordered what is now Lansdowne Township on the east and north sides and Monongahela Township on the west side in 1798. He named his new settlement after his brother-in-law, Nicholas Denison, who had come to America with him from England two years earlier. John's wife also named her settlement after her late husband's sister: Margaret Denison Seton (1753–1827). Lansdowne grew quickly due to its location at the crossroads of several important trails connecting Philadelphia with Lancaster and Yorktown on the Susquehanna River. By 1800, there were over 100 people living in Lansdownsville; by 1824, it had reached 1,000 residents. The original mills which still stand today began production during this time and soon made money available formansions for local families such as those of Nathan Gourley and their children Amos (1802-1875) and Isabella Jane Gourley (1805-1887), both signers of the Declaration of Independence when they were just 14 years old – something that still surprises many people today because it all happened so long ago! In 1834, voters elected James Kappler as Mayor; he served until 1840 when he was succeeded by Samuel Prentice Jr.. In 1892, Borough Council passed Resolution No. 6 calling for incorporation into a new city based upon recommendations from an administrator appointed to look into ways to improve public services within our community including education & hygiene programs; however due to lack of funds we were unable to incorporation into City Government until 1907! In 1906 Borough Council passed Resolution No. 8 calling for annexation by Pittsburgh because they felt that it would be beneficial economically; however due to lack of funding once again we were not able to annex until 1918! Today much like then Lansdownsville continues to thrive thanks largely to its excellent schools system along with friendly neighbors who have helped support its growth through their patronage!
Lansdowne is a small borough in Lehigh County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 5,269 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Philadelphia metropolitan area. The town of Lansdowne was founded by Quakers in 1771 as a result of an land deal with the proprietor of 3,000 acres (1 km2) east of Berkshires. The original name for the town was "Milton" because one group of settlers had named their farm after Milton Hershey's chocolate factory in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. In 1839, John Fenton commissioned architect and Surveyor General George Washington Smith to design a new courthouse and jail in Lansdowne Township which would serve as both a justice center and county courthouse. The first building was completed in 1840 and served as the township hall until it burned down in 1892. Later that year, Lansdowne became one of six townships within Lehigh County when it was created from parts of three other counties – Northampton (founded 1795), Buckingham (1798), and Huntingdon (1802). The first store opened on Main Street in Lansdowne on May 8, 1865 by grocer Isaac Sutterbaugh. By 1870 there were four stores open including two ice cream parlors and two general stores run by merchants Isaiah Burritt and Rufus Griggs respectively. In 1886 local physician George Wurtzel established his practice at 6 Broad Street where he operated until his death in 1939. In 1907 dentist Charles Cushing built hispractice at 122 Market Street which continued until its closure in 1957; also that year a post office opened at 15 Broad Street under the name "Lansdowne". According to 2000 census data, 3% of households lived below poverty line while 20% earned less than $30/hour; however this percentage has increased over time to 30%. According to 2018 Census figures 9% percentof families live below poverty line while 45% earn less than $30/hour
