Lansdowne is a small town in northeastern Pennsylvania, United States. It is bordered by Beaver County to the north, York County to the east, and Westmoreland County to the south. The population was 2,890 at the 2000 census. The community was founded in 1784 as Lansdowne Township by General John Forbes of Scotland. It became Lansdowne Borough on March 15, 1867, when it merged with neighboring townships of Beech and Tohickon. On February 14, 1907, it amalgamated again with nearby townships of Lawrenceville and Perrysburg to form Lansdowne Township again. Lansdowne is home to Lansdowne High School which serves students from grades 9-12. The school was built in 1903 and has been enlarged twice since then. The current building was completed in 2006 and cost $60 million dollars to construct. In addition to its high school, Lansdowne also has a junior college that offers courses for students who want an opportunity for a career in their chosen field or want some additional education while still living within the community; two churches; one Baptist and one Methodist; three convenience stores: a hardware store/grocery store ( Big Joe's), Burger King (the first restaurant Chain McDonalds opened), Hershey's chocolate factory (now part of Red Lobster); four banks - Citizens Bank & Trust Company (founded 1865), First National Bank & Trust Company (founded 1892), Peoples National Bank & Trust Company (founded 1898) - as well as two public libraries - one public library serving residents of Beaver Valley Borough and one serving residents of both Beaver Valley Borough and Lansdownsee Township itself - making this an excellent place to live whether you are looking for economic stability or literary amenities!

The town was incorporated in 1825 and named for John Lansdowne, an early settler. Lansdowne was founded by John Lansdowne on the Susquehanna River in what is now Blair County. The first post office was established in 1826, and the first store opened in 1830. In 1841, the community of Lansdowne became part of the larger town of Huntingdon. In 1847, John Bechtel donated land to make up part of the present-day town of Lansdowne. The primary industry until the late 1800s was agriculture; however, since then there has been significant development in the form of natural gas resources and production from Hebron rye (a type of flour). The Town Hall building is a National Historic Landmark which dates back to 1865. In October 2007, Lansdownsie High School announced plans to close due to budgetary constraints; however this did not prevent students from graduating with their diplomas on time on December 5th 2007
