Lansdowne is a small community located in the Armstrong County, Pennsylvania area. It was first settled in 1798 by Major General George Washington and his army during the French and Indian War. The town was originally called "New Market." In 1824, Lansdowne became a borough and was renamed "Lansdowne" after Colonel John Lansdowne, a British officer who served in the American Revolution. The first ammunition plant in Lansdowne was built in 1827 by Elisha Peale and came to be known as "Peale's Mill." Ammunition production continued until 1865 when it was closed due to lack of demand for firearms. After the plant closed down, local farmers used wood from the mill stack for their own shotguns. In 1925, the town of Lansdowne incorporated as a city. It remained an unincorporated community until 1972 when it became part of the new Borough of Armstrong County. As an unincorporated community, Lansdowne had no legal authority over its own government and lacked many resources such as water or sewer connections that municipalities have today. This made it difficult for the city to enforce regulations such as zoning laws or develop its own infrastructure such as streetlights or schools. Nevertheless, upon incorporation into the new borough, Lansdownsie began efforts to improve its infrastructure including developing its own fire department and constructing a library which still functiones today. Today, Lansdownsie is one of Armstrong County's most vibrant communities with active businesses and many residents who enjoy their quality of life despite its lack of amenities like sewers or water systems

Lansdowne is a small town in Lackawanna County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 1,690 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Scranton–Wilkes-Barre, PA Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first settlers in Lansdowne were Andrew and Mary Sprague who moved from Northampton, Massachusetts in 1793. Andrew Sprague's son John had three children with his wife Rebecca: Anna (1795-1868), Lucy (1800-1868) and John Lansdowne (1802-1937). Anna married Samuel Prentiss and they had seven children: Prudence (1821-1911), Alice (1824-1900), George Washington "Gus" Prentiss (1827-1920), Edwin Demarest Prentiss Jr. (1829-1912), Harriet Beecher Stowe Howe ( 1830-1906), and James Fenton Prentiss II ( 1834 - 1913). Lucy Sprague married Isaac Chandler on October 15, 1828 in Lancaster Township while living near Reading, Delaware County, Pennsylvania. They had two children: Sarah Jane Chandler(baptized December 25th 1830) who married William Hildebrandt on April 5th 1840 in Lancaster Township and he died January 12th 1865 when she was only 27 years old;and Elmira Jane Chandler(baptized November 2nd 1832). 1st Generation Anna Chandler born December 25th 1830 to Lucy Sprague & Isaac Chandler maimed her father when she was 1 year old and died 3 years later at age 10 due to scarlet fever which Zerubbabel Elihu English called "Ailuropoda melanoleuca". Her mother passed away soon after childbirth leaving Anna penniless but with a deep emotional bond with her 4 sisters from infancy until their death themselves aged 21+, 14yrs apart from each other.-- adulthood spent caring for 3 orphans left behind by both parents.-- Became self reliant upon family support as adults & worked various odd jobs to make ends meet until marriagerepreneur@email-- Married William Hildebrandt on April 5th 1840 in Lancaster Township & they have 8 children including 2 girls named Elmira Jane which led to their first business being a dry goods store between 1840-'47-- First Company started selling groceries door to door!-- Converted house into restaurant/bar Apr 1947 renamed Lansdowne Manor Hotel thenceforth Lansdowne Inn. Lansdowne is a borough in Somerset County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 3,059 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Pittsburgh metropolitan area and was part of the old Allegheny County. The first settler in Lansdowne was John Lansdowne who arrived in 1764. He built a cabin on what is now Lansdowne Avenue and named it after his home town, Lansdowne in Scotland. In 1814, James Shaffer purchased land east of present-day Lansdowne and began to build a farmstead which he called "Shaffer's Hill". By 1821, Shaffer had expanded his farmstead by purchasing additional land to the north and west of where he had initialed his original holdings. These new properties formed the nucleus of what became Lansdowne Township. In 1828, John Crouse settled on lands northeast of present-day Lansdowne along Beaver Creek. He named his new township "Crouse Township" after himself and laid out its streets according to a plan he developed with help from Benjamin Rush (1784–1843). The first post office in Crouse Township was established in 1830; it was renamed "Lansdale" in 1863 after General George Washington's former aide and collaborator Lewis Stroud (1762–1838). In 1854, Coalbrooks Manufacturing Company merged with two other companies to form the Pennsylvania Railroad Company; as a result, many businesses closed down during this time period including J & W Mills (founded 1865), which lay abandoned for more than 20 years until it reopened as an agricultural company around 1920. After World War II ended came a period of rapid suburban growth that has continued into the 21st century - especially within northwest Pittsburgh proper - resulting in increased traffic congestion on nearby streets such as Penn Hills Road and Monongahela Boulevard near Amtrak Station Southeastern District.. This increase has also led to significant environmental damage due to vehicular emissions from shopping malls located within easy reach of Interstate 376/SR 711 corridors across town.. However, there are some efforts being made by local leaders to address these issues through various programs such as green infrastructure development or public transportation initiatives.. Today Lansdownsie contains mostly upscale housing developments while downtown remains largely populated by residents working within nearby businesses or services offered by neighboring municipalities like Shadyside or Homestead Heights.. Although much has changed since its incorporation into borough status 50 years ago - most notably due to increasing suburbanization - there are still some unique aspects about this historically vibrant community such as its annual Powwow Festival which attracts over 10000 participants annually ..
