Lansdale is a small town in the Lehigh Valley region of Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 5,441 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Allentown– Bethlehem–Easton, PA Metropolitan Statistical Area. Lansdale's economy is based on education and health services. Lansdale was founded by German immigrants in 1836 as "Nescott", after their farm in that name. Nescott would be renamed Lansdale in 1881 when it became a borough within the Town of Allentown. The first school in Lansdale opened its doors to students on December 15, 1836. In 1840, an Agricultural School was established and would serve as the mainstay of Lansdalians educational needs until 1918 when the Boroughs High School replaced it. By 1860, there were over 100 businesses scattered throughout downtown and Telephone Row which flanked what is now Spring Street between Third and Fourth Streets had become home to many more businesses including three breweries: The Brewery of Northampton (founded by Nicholas Wittwer), The Brewery of Chester (founded by George Wirtz) and The Brewing Company from Westmoreland County (established by John Cockerill). At this time, transportation options for those living near Allentown were either horse or buggy transportation or walking to work each day given that there was no railroads nor express trains running through town at that time. In 1915, telephone service began operations through local long-distance companies providing residents with Caller ID which allowed for easier communication with family and friends across town or country without having to worry about missed calls or being stranded out of town on a cold winter night! This new technology would quickly become an essential part of daily life for all residents of Lansdale who could now easily communicate with one another regardless of location! The next big development came during World War II when the demand for goods produced in Lancaster increased tremendously due to war production efforts! Many factories were built here such as American Tractor Corporation plant located on Spring Street between Third and Fourth Streets where thousands Of tractor parts were manufactured; munitions plants like Hanover Arsenal at Bellefonte Road southwest corner Ninth Street; Aluminum Works located east off Main Street just north of Center Avenue; Shipbuilding yards like Dickenson Shipyards building ships both large cargo vessels such as tankers/supplieships called Liberty Ships(1940)and passenger liners such as Penn Central's Holland America Line's Empire State Building named after General George Washington Carver who donated land for this shipyard) along with smaller vessels like motorboats etc... These facilities helped contribute heavily to regional GDP growth during World War II! In 1954, First National Bank opened its doors right across Spring Street from Telephone Row filling what had been previously filled by several other banks including Citizens Trust Company & National City Bank before them! By 1955 - Lansdale had grown so much that they decided it was time to build their own city hall which would seated up to 350 people! With plans underway for a grand opening ceremony - construction finally halted due lack funds but continued sporadically throughout 1957-1973 under various names including "City Hall Annex" until finally becoming "Lans Dale Civic Center" upon reopening in October 1997!! Today marks the 50th anniversary since that fateful day when Lansdalians erupted into spontaneous applause upon seeing their new city hall!!

In 1916, Lansdale became an incorporated municipality. The name Lansdale comes from John Denny's home place of Dunmore, Scotland. At first it was only given to men who owned land in the township and could not lay their hands on any other word for their own household goods or estate which would have been more likely to appear in early English documents such as Magna Carta or Charter of Libertiesbury etc... The women were called "Lanarkshire" until about 1840 when they acquired title to all properties within the Township including newly formed areas adjoining Scranton and Wilkes-Barre (now Reading) Boroughs... In 1695 William Penn granted 2,000 acres (820 hectares) of land east of Delaware River to James Gifford for his colony known as Pennsylvania… By 1714 Gifford had sold 1/4 mile (0.6 kilometer) from where he stood along with 100 acres (40 hectares) of additional land through a purchase with Nicholas Germain de la Tour d'Aubigne… This latest grant included 400 acres (160 hectares), now part of Lansdale Township’s eastern border and lying just north of its original core area including Dunmore... Mentioning this additional grants by name aroused some interest among those living close enough to note that there must be something special about this particular tract because so many others had followed before them without achieving much result beyond occasional visits by pioneers…. Denny died in 1855 but his brother Daniel succeeded him and continued developing the business until 1893 when he retired due to age 70 years old; he then passed it on to his son John who operated it until 1912 when it was conveyed to Harry Kappenberger who operated it until 1963 when it passed into private hands again according to local tradition . After Kappenberger's death in 1963 another family member purchased it from them and managed it until 1988 when ownership reverted back to the township government after being held for several years by a failed attempt at privatization by a group led by one David Jaffe who unsuccessfully petitioned state legislators unsuccessfully for ownership change . In 1993, following passage of the Lanark Act , which provided for township incorporation , Lansdalemen voted unanimously not To Incorporate therefore continuing their elected management under a five person board headed by Mayor Tom Jaffe . John Denny started farming near what is now Lansdale while working at Lackawanna Coal Company Samuel Hance opened up an agricultural store nearby selling eggs, flour and other supplies also buying items like cattle feed
