In 1859, the township was organized into two townships: Lansdale and Northumberland Township. On October 16, 1898, a tornado touched down near Springboro and destroyed much of that community; it was one of only three tornadoes to hit Pennsylvania in 1900 (the others being West Chester and Bethlehem). In 1909, there were six farms and eighty-six residential buildings in Lansdale when it became a borough; by 1920 those numbers had increased to ninety-one farms with 1123 residences. It didn't become a borough until 1954 when it merged with Easton Borough Council; then again it wasn’t until 1970 that it became an official city within Allentown metropolitan area. As part of that process all zoning regulations were abolished so development could proceed as desired without restraint or regulation by government entities which would have been difficult or impossible to change once established as anofficial city with its own charter etc.). This has led to some high-rise developments such as Trump Towers but also low rise housing developments like Parkview Terrace which offer more accessibly priced housing options for residents across all income levels including students and professionals living close by for work/study etc.) . Lansdale, Pennsylvania is a small town in Lackawanna County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 2,569 at the 2010 census. Lansdale is the county seat of Lackawanna County. It lies on the Susquehanna River and ZIP Code 15801. The first European settlers in what is now Lansdale were Dutch farmers who arrived around 1685. They named their settlement "Dunschlecht", meaning "hidden valley". In 1718, John Forbes moved his family to what is now Lansdale from Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania and founded Forbes Farm on land that he had bought from the MacKenzie family. He built a log cabin andnamed it "Lansdale" after his home in Dunsfoldshire, Scotland. A post office called Lansdale was established in 1807, and remained in operation until 1860. In 1827, Joseph Biddle opened a store in the town where he now stands known as Biddle's General Store which still operates today under the name of JB's Place. In 1839–40 Hance Dickey built a sawmill on the Susquehanna River for use by local farmers and lumbermen who were milling wood for shipment downriver to Manchester or Philadelphia. By 1850 there were over 100 mills operating in Lackawanna County; many of these were along the Susquehanna River near present-day Lansdale Town Center (a shopping mall). Lansdale was incorporated as a borough on February 14th, 1889 by an act of the legislature of Pennsylvania; it was renamed after Colonel George William Lansdale (1814-1902), an American soldier who fought with distinction during World War I and later served as ambassador to Japan and China before retiring to private life in 1923 riding horseback across America
Lansdale was first settled in 1792 by John Lansdale and his wife, Judith. The original land for the town was 10 acres (4 hectares). The town was named after Captain James Lancaster of the British navy. In 1841, the name was changed to Lansdale Township. The township seat was moved from its original location on Market Street to what is now called Independence Square in 1893. In 1900, the township became a borough and in 1975 it became a city.
