Lansdale is a small town in 17 miles east of Philadelphia that was founded in 1824. Today, Lansdale remains an agricultural community with a population of around 10,000. The town's namesake, Timothy Lansdale, settled there in 1824 and became known for his rifle manufacturing company. In the late 1800s and early 1900s, firearms manufacturers such as Colt and Winchester located their operations in Lansdale. many of these businesses continued to operate until the mid-20th century when they were displaced by other technological advances. Today, Lansdale's economy revolves around its strong connection to the firearms industry. The community name comes from George Lansdale, who served as U.S. Representative from Pennsylvania from 1939 to 1953 and as Secretary of Defense under Presidents Franklin D. Roosevelt and Harry S Truman. Lansdale also founded the Scranton-Wilkes-Barre Railroad in 1944 and served as its president from 1948 to 1952. Lansdale has a long history dating back to 1793 when Elijah White opened a lumberyard there on present-day Main Street. In 1847, John Blair donated land for the erection of a church and school in what would become Lansdale. In 1865, James Waddell built a home onpresent day Lankford Road near where he had before resided while serving as justice of the peace for Butler County; this property now houses the current town hall complex with two other buildings added over time: one used as an agricultural building during World War II and one completed in 1959 as the first phase of what would become Lansdaleton High School (now known simply as “Lansdale”). In 1893, Addison Lansdale purchased 100 acres (40 hectares) east of downtown for $5 per acre ($60 per hectare today), which became known as “the farm” or “the private tract” because it did not share water rights with neighboring communities like Wilkinsburg or Monroeville until after his death in 1907 – making it one of the most isolated communities in all of Butler County at that time (though it does not appear to have been so since incorporation into borough status). Finally incorporated into borough status on February 19th 1915 by vote of its citizens following approval by Common Council (#2), then renamed “Lansdale Borough” due to postal designation changes effective that date; annexed adjoining municipalities such as Monroeville and Wilkinsburg along with parts of Greensville Township prior to becoming fully urbanized within 10 years thereafter including many new homes being developed adjacent thereto largely thanks to philanthropic gifts/ donations by prominent local individuals like Judge Edwin Willard and Mrs Vesta Wright Sears ever since! Lansdale is a town in Lackawanna County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 6,912 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Pittsburgh metropolitan area. Lansdale was founded by Welsh immigrants in 1795. Lansdale was first settled by farmers and their families who came to the area from Wales in the mid-1700s. By 1810, many of these settlers had built homes on what is now Lansdale Heights east of downtown. In 1834, John Denny founded an sawmill on the Monongahela River just south of town and began shipping logs out of town for construction purposes. This led to the development of mills and businesses around Lansdale that continue to this day. In 1868, residents of neighboring Green Township petitioned for incorporation as a village because they felt there were not enough incentives for economic development within their township boundaries. On March 3, 1870, voters passed a resolution ratifying the incorporation of Lansdale into a borough with a population of 511 people (of which only 369 lived in Lansdale). The Borough's first mayor was John Kline (1872-1875). After Boroughhood status was granted by Pennsylvania State Legislature in 1895, Mayor Harry Sweeny served until 1903 when he became Borough President and held that position until his death in 1912. During Mayor Sweeny's tenure as Borough President, some major projects included improving school infrastructure; creating new parks; erecting an addition to the then-new Carnegie Library; and building new bridges over streams and rivers near downtown Lambertville (now known as Pfeffertown). On July 1st 1907 citizens voted to change its name from "Lancaster" to "Lansdale". At that time it had been decided that since much of eastern Pennsylvania was still frontier territory where pronunciations varied significantly from what non-native speakers thought should be called things like Lancaster or Philadelphia - especially given how pronunciation differences could impact sales figures - changing the name would help attract more suburbanites interested in living close enough so they could get involved with local government activities but far away enough so they weren't considered 'lesser' Pennsylvanians anymore than their fellow Indians or Germans were considered 'lesser' Americans. This decision helped solidify Lansdale's place as one of southern Pennsylvania's largest communities outside Philadelphia due largely to its proximity to larger cities such as Pittsburgh and Reading while also giving rise to certain nicknameerville phenomena like "The Ghetto." The original borough boundary stretched all along Mount Lebanon Avenue from Clairmont Road northeastward through today’s South Side neighborhood before turning westward along Bloomfield Avenue past today’s Kingwood Shopping Center before continuing westward along Parkland Drive all the way back up Mount Lebanon Boulevard again before terminating at Clairmont Road once again – thus leaving plenty open for future annexation by other municipalities! While some aspects associated with being part of borough have continuedameliorated – most notably lack thereof during World War II when large numbers city dwellers enlisted elsewhere – overall it has remained relatively unchanged since 1907 despite significant gentrification throughout much southeastern PA over ensuing decades culminating with dramatic changes taking place recently Downtown Lambertville...

In the 1920s, the population grew to over 100,000 as a result of World War II suburban development.
