Lansdale is a small town in the Beaver County area of Pennsylvania. The population was 1,521 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Pittsburgh metropolitan area. Lansdale is about 20 miles west of Pittsburgh and 45 minutes by car from Harrisburg. The first settlement in what would become Lansdale was made by John Welsh, a Quaker, on December 12, 1755 as "Mount Nittany". His trading post and gristmill were located near present-day Lansdale High School on Penn Avenue. In 1801, Welsh's son-in-law, James Robertson built a cabin on Warrenton Road just east of present day Lansdale Elementary School. This early settler had land that stretched to the Allegheny River and included parts of today's Borough of Clearfield Township and Clearfield Park boroughs in Centre County. In 1828, John Parson established an academy in what would become Lansdale which became one of the leading schools for girls in western Pennsylvania. In 1860, Drury Lane Presbyterian Church was founded adjacent topresent day Lansdale Elementary School by Rev. Wm Hoggarty with land donated from his father-in-law Benjamin Brownell (1796 - 1865). The church later became known as First Presbyterian Church & Sunday School Wing before being renamed Holy Name Parish Church in 1984 following its merger with St Andrew's Roman Catholic parishioners in nearby Shadyside Heights . In 1870, when Beaver County was formed from parts of Huntingdon County it included much of what now makes up Monessen Township including most of what is now Lansdale Township; however due to heavy German immigration there were few Germans living among these early settlers leaving much vestige remaining today within modern day Lansdale township boundaries; this led to initial German name confusion among many residents during their earliest years here as they did not understand English names for places such as "Lansdales" or "Warrentons". As Beaver county grew larger more people started moving into newly formed areas such as present day Bergstrom Township which includes much smaller portions of current day Monessen Township including all but partof that township’s border with Lansdale; this migration also led to eventualusageof English language surnames among some residents becoming increasingly confusing to those who arrived after 1900 especially since maps then showed only villages/townships within Beaver county rather than individual townships/villages etc.; this caused some tension during those early years until efforts were Madeto standardize naming practices among community members over time beginning with comprehensive map mapping operation conducted locally starting in 1911 which regionally depicted all village/township boundaries within Beaver county making it easier for residents to identify their local counterparts wherever they lived even if they resided elsewhere within Present Day Monessen Township boundaries; however despite these initiatives many residents still continue using their original family surnames both inside and outside the township limits today contributing further confusion amongst others who are newcomer(s) thereto . Today there are numerous businesses located throughout central and eastern PA catering mostly towards servicing northern & southern markets alike along Penn Avenue downtown where residential development has increased significantly over recent decades resulting predominantly inner city growth while rural suburban neighborhoods have become increasingly annexed into larger cities or replaced by new shopping malls either through annexation orPurchase /Growth within existing municipalities usually resulting via amalgamation / merge processes between neighboring municipalities creating evergreen communities like Hershey (centralPA), Allentown (eastPennsylvania), Bethlehem (northwestPennsylvania), Erie (southwestPennsylvania), Scranton &Wilkes Barre ( southeastern PA) while other older municipalities have experienced less significant growth trends typically retaining certain core services and values like Chambersburg (centralPA) having beenCONSISTENTLY linked politically & economically WITH Wilkes Barre since its incorporation as a separate municipality deep into the 19th century although official annexation proceedings have occurred only once – 1960 when Chambersburg annexing Wilkes Barre via purchase resulted in establishment OF WILLIAMSBURG MUNICIPALITY). During World War II many residences were requisitioned for use by military personnel General Motors plant located just north east corner Of State Route 422 And Lancaster Pike across road From present day White Hall Municipal Building housing barracks dormitories mess hall storage etc.; thereafter most remnant civilian housing stock vanished entering wartime demolition or abandonment never again seen developing south side Of roadway next To GM factory property line until recently when foundation work beganFOR NEW Housing development approximately 400 Yards EAST OF PRESENT DAY WHITE HALL MUNICIPAL BUILDING site providing direct access New Housing Development will include approximately 160 units affordable to low income families utilizing public transportation LINKED TO METRO STATION
