Kingston, Pennsylvania is a small town in Erie County, Pennsylvania. The population was 6,816 at the 2000 census. It is the most populous municipality in Erie County and the second most populous municipality in Pennsylvania after Philadelphia. The first settler in Kingston was Daniel Gedney who came from Nottinghamshire, England in 1763. He built a log cabin on what is now Main Street and he named it Gedney's Landing after his home country. In 1810 John Stephenson founded a gristmill on what is now Strawberry Creek Road. In 1827 James Cammack became one of the developers of Kingston with land holdings that extended into Scranton Township west of Monongahela River and parts of Lackawanna Township east of Monongahela River. By 1830 there were ninety-six people living in Kingston with eleven farms and twenty-one businesses including four gristmills and six sawmills. One hundred fifty acres (160 ha) were acquired by Peter Ackerman for $2,500 cash only from Andrew Carnegie in 1901 as part of his gift to Kingstonites known as "Carnegie's Grant." When General Electric began construction on its largest electric generating station west of Pittsburgh near Wilkes-Barre, PA., Ackerman donated an additional 106 acres (41 ha) which became Kingsport Generating Station; this site remains an important power plant today supplying electricity to many municipalities throughout southeastern PA including Reading Borough and Bethlehem Township! In 1876 real estate developer George Eastman purchased 100 acres (40 ha) northeast of where present day Kingston sits from Andrew Carnegie for $5 per acre ($25 perkm²). With this purchase Eastman laid out Kingsport district which includes much of what now constitutes Kingston township as well as portions of Lackawanna township and Monroe county across the Monongahela River Valley beyond present day Monroe City limits to form what are today easternmost Montgomery County suburbs called Silver Spring Park District 2nd Congressional District Headquarters Area while keeping all or nearly all original village boundaries intact! In 1893 William Ladd purchased 1/4 mile (.50 km) NW corner main street & RD W side lot from Elisha Semon for $1 useless stone wall used by Indians when white men first came here c1800s

Kingston is a small town in northeastern Pennsylvania, United States. It lies on the Susquehanna River and is adjacent to Lackawanna County. The population was 3,509 at the 2010 census. Kingston was first settled by Europeans in 1718 as part of the British Province of New York. In 1778, it became part of the Pennsylvania Colony. The town was founded as a post station on the Susquehanna River by Nicholas Proctor and others in 1781. It grew rapidly due to its location and its access to transportation routes. Although Kingston had no centralized government until 1801, it developed an economy based largely on agriculture and manufacturing. In 1907, it became one of five municipalities within the Erie Canal Zone and lost its independence when that zone merged with Pennsylvania into the United States. However, Kingston retains some vestige of self-government including an elected mayor and council members.
Kingston was founded in 1753 by Nicholas-Jacques Kingston and his wife, Mary. The town was named for the castle that now stands on the outskirts of town. In 1815, the United States purchased the castle from its previous owner and renamed it Fort Washington.
