Kingston, PA is a small town located in the Monongahela Valley region of Pennsylvania. The population was 5,471 at the 2000 census. The name of the town comes from two early pioneers, John and Mary Kingston. They came to this area in 1824 and started a grocery store in what is now downtown Kingston. From that store, they gradually became one of the most influential merchants in their community. In 1851, they moved their business to what is now Market Street and continued to be an important part of the town's commerce until their death in 1912. The first professional rifle shooting event ever held in Kingston was on October 11th, 1868. It was organized by Judge Benjamin Fenton and co-sponsored by Captain George Wickersham of the 3rd Regiment militia and Mr. Aiken of Kingston who provided rifles for use at the event which attracted a large number of participants from all over Western Pennsylvania including Pittsburgh, Greensburg and Lock Haven. At that time there were no state or federal gun laws regulating firearms so competition among rifle shooters was open to everyone regardless of experience or skill level. Many famous Gunfighters such as Jesse James (1863-1937) attended this inaugural event which helped promote rifle shooting as an Olympic discipline

The name “Kingston” is derived from the English word “king” and was chosen to honor King George Washington. The first residents of Kingston were farmers who grew corn, wheat and other vegetables. In 1872, the town moved to a new location on land donated by John Wesley Taylor. The first store opened in 1875 and soon became a popular spot for locals to purchase goods they could not find at home or elsewhere. In 1916, Kingston became an agricultural center with an expansion of its production capabilities due to World War I. After the war, businesses such as those that operated farms began to move out of the town while people turned their attention towards downtown where they enjoyed shopping and dining options available on-site as well as access to public transportation. Today, Kingston remains a vibrant community with many active businesses and cultural offerings that make it one of central Pennsylvania’s most visited destinations. The population has grown steadily since its inception with over 100 residents now living in what was once just a small town!

It was named after the capital of England and became an incorporated village in 1824. Kingston is one of nineteen townships in Berks County and one of three municipalities in the Borough of Kingstown. The first settlement in what is now Kingston was made by John Hargrave on October 6, 1781, as part of the western land grants given to him by colonial British president George Washington. A post office called Hargrave's Mills was established in 1785, but it failed to take off and was discontinued in 1803. In 1824, Kingston became an incorporated village under charter from the state of Pennsylvania. The original core business district centered around mills running water from local springs into storage tanks for export to other towns and cities across the United States; however, since 2002 several new businesses have opened up around town including a grocery store (Fruitland), a hair salon (Humble Hair & Styling), a pizzeria (Pizza Hut!), a wine shop (Wine Country), and several restaurants including PF Chang's China Bistro-Kingston which has been open since 2004. Today, Kingston remains largely agricultural with some light industry conducted within its boundaries: two stores operate as convenience stores - Starbuck's Coffee & Donuts on Main Street and CVS Pharmacy on High Street - as well as Stanley’s Garden Grocery chain operating six supermarkets throughout southern Berks County selling fruits/veggies/meat/fresh produce etc., all within walking distance from downtown Kingston. There are also several small companies that provide services such as electrical work or plumbing; however most residents rely heavily on agriculture for their economic sustenance which provides about two-thirds of their income.
Kingston is a town in and the county seat of Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 14,796 at the 2010 census. It has been part of the Pittsburgh metropolitan area since its incorporation in 1855. The first settlers in what is now Kingston were surveyors working for the Western Railroad Company. They arrived in 1827 and named their community after Prince George's County, Maryland, which they had just discovered. The first stores and churches were built there by 1830. In 1835, the town was made an incorporated borough with a population of 575 people. When the Allegheny River flooded in 1845, Kingston became one of many communities along its banks that lost their homes and businesses to the flooding. In 1870, construction began on what would become Ligonier University; it opened its doors in 1876. The following year saw Kingston become one of thirteen townships within Lancaster County when it was split off from Philadelphia Township. By 1900, Kingston had a population of 22,711 people and was home to six schools: Ligonier High School (now Ligonier Valley College), King's Chapel Academy (later Quaker Heights Academy), Easton Technical Institute (now Eastern Tech), Presbyterian Hospital (later York Hospital), and Westinghouse Electric Company's major worksite located adjacent to present-day Penn Avenue between Monongahela Street and North Street NW
