Kingston, Pennsylvania is a small town in the Lehigh Valley of Pennsylvania. The population was 9,827 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Allentown-Easton-Muncy, PA Micropolitan Statistical Area. The first people to live in Kingston were Dutch colonists who arrived in 1681. In 1701, the British established a military post here and named it Fort Pitt after General George Washington's father. The town developed around this fort until 1812 when it was abandoned and its inhabitants moved to nearby Bethlehem. In 1814, Captain John Smith founded a small trading post on the east side of Kingston Creek which became known as Exchange Point. This site served as an important commercial center for many years and contained a number of public buildings including a courthouse and jail. In 1828, Kingston began to grow rapidly due to new transportation technologies such as canals and railways. By 1830, it had become one of the largest towns in Lehigh County with over 10,000 residents. During this time, businesses included mills, cattle drives (the first ever in America), textile mills and brickyards along with several churches and schools. During World War II, Kingston was one of the most heavily bombed communities in western Pennsylvannia because of its strategic location near US Army airfields like Wright-Patterson Air Force Base (now Wright-Patterson National Airport) and RAF Coningsby Airfield (now Coningsby Airport). Notwithstanding these bombings however, there remained some significant residences and businesses remain standing throughout most of downtown Kingston from 1945 until 1990 when they were all razed to make way for new development including shopping malls that now occupy much of downtown area around Interstate 81/US Routes 22 & 25

Kingston, Pennsylvania was founded in 1755 by the surveyor John Armstrong and his brother-in-law, James Forbes. The town was named for Lieutenant General George Washington who had come to America in 1753 as head of the British army. The first settler in Kingston was Hugh MacKenzie who built a cabin on the banks of the Susquehanna River. In 1758, John Armstrong erected a sawmill on the river and began to produce lumber. In 1759, he married Margaret Cochrane and began to cultivate land around Kingston. By 1800, there were more than 100 settlers living in Kingston. In 1803, Alexander Hamilton became president of the United States and issued an order that all citizens be treated equally before law. The communities of Kingston and McKeesport were formed from parts of Kingston and McKeesport respectively. In 1814, during the Mexican War, American forces attacked Mexico City while under occupation by Spanish troops. As part of General Winfield Scott's Campaign against Mexico, Kingston played an important role in this battle by hosting a number of military officers including Major General James Wilkinson who commanded British forces in North America at this time In 1825, local officials voted to name their city after former President James Kenedy The first post office was opened in Kingston on October 6th, 1830 by Aiken Dickson In 1832–1834 construction began on what is now known as Buffalo Avenue which linked Kingston with Buffalo Township In 1836–1837 construction started on what is now known as Niagara Boulevard which connected Kingston with Niagara Falls In 1840–1841 construction began on Fort Erie which served as a training ground for American forces during the War Of Independence

Kingston was also the site of several pivotal battles in the American Revolution, including Battle of Yorktown. In 1828, Kingston become a city and remains one of Pennsylvania's most populous towns today.
