Johnstown is a small town in Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 3,554 at the 2010 census. It was originally named "Johnstown Junction" after the two forks of the Susquehanna River that flowed through it. Johnstown became a community in 1872, when Abram S. Peebles organized a post office and store there. The name Johnstown comes from the Iroquois word jonah (the god of war), meaning "headwaters of Susquehanna." In 1872, Peebles donated land to make up for his donation to the town earlier that year. On December 12, 1872, Johnstown's first school opened in a log building on what is now State Route 11 (now US 26). At that time, only men could attend school and girls were not allowed until after 10:00 A.M., so all students had to come from farther away. The first teacher was Mr. Hickey who taught 1–2 days per week with no vacation time and no pay; he also did all the heavy work of grading and planting flowers on the property which earned him $5 per week wages as opposed to what other teachers received at that time. In 1870-71 there were only three residences in Johnstown; one being an old tavern called "The Tavern", located near where Union Boulevard now meets State Route 311 (then SR 211), another being an abandoned house located near present day School District 527's middle school campus on Elm Street NW; and finally a cabin owned by Drury Bros., which stands today on private property east of I-81 Exit 219 off PA 287 southeast of downtown Johnstown proper about four miles north of where US 26 intersects PA 287 outside of town limits just before entering downtown Crossingville In 1875-76 Abraham Peebles built two more residences northwest of current day School District 527's middle school campus on Elm Street NW - one known as "Parker House" and another known as "Tucker House". These homes are still standing today although their windows are boarded up due to weather conditions over recent years including severe ice storms! In 1877-78 Wm Muhlenberg erected one additional dwelling northeast of present day School District 527's middle school Campus site - this dwelling is still standing today! This addition resulted in increased population growth within minutes or seconds due to entrepreneurship among locals who saw opportunity in this new development! Today approximately 60% or more people living within 150 yards or less south east side Of Downtown Crossingville reside within SchoolsDistrict527 boundaries while 40% +/- live within 500 yards southwest side Of County Line Road And Byway Erie

Johnstown, Pennsylvania was founded on the Susquehanna River in 1788 by Johnstown McGraw and his brother James. The town quickly grew and became a major center for commerce and industry. In 1814, the United States Congress passed the Know-Nothing Bill, which prohibited Catholics from voting. This caused an intense religious conflict in Johnstown. Despite the ban, many Catholic families immigrated to Johnstown during the 19th century. The population of Johnstown peaked at over 100,000 in 1907 but has since declined due to various factors including industrialization and natural disasters such as floods.
