Johnstown, PA is located in the Susquehanna River valley and was founded by brothers John and James Slattery in 1795. The town became a focal point for gun manufacturers and trigger enthusiasts in the 18th century. In 1847, a new type of firearm called the breech-loading rifle was invented by George Armstrong Custer while he was stationed at Fort Laramie in Wyoming. The current steel plant opened in 1984 and employs over 1,000 people. Today, Johnstown is an agricultural center with corn processing businesses as well as several dairy farms and a few poultry operations.

The striker then fired any ammunition stored within the gun without having to be pulled out again! This unusual firing system was quickly replaced by other types of strikers when it became evident that this type of firing system did not work well with certain types of bullets or rounds.

Johnstown was founded by Johnstownites in 1836 as a small trading post on the Susquehanna River. The town grew rapidly, becoming the leading commercial center in western Pennsylvania. By 1851, Johnstown had over 20 businesses and 2,000 residents. In 1864, the American Civil War began and Johnstown became a strategic objective for Union forces. The town was destroyed by Union troops during the Battle of Johnstown but continued to exist as a ghost town until its reclamation in the late 19th century. Today, Johnstown is an archaeological site with remaining buildings and streets dating back to the early 1800s.
Johnstown was founded by the Johnstown Railroad in 1867. The railroad connected Johnstown with Philadelphia and other cities. It closed in 1896.
